But I’ve got one more trick up my sleeve for July’s theme. Like all things pretty, shiny and sparkly?? Well keep reading cause that’s what I’m delivering to you today! Cue the Hyper Flash Powder in the shade Vow from small L.A. based beauty brand Moonplay Cosmetics.
This is a loose highlighting powder that’s ultra reflective and almost metallic when you really pack it on. Vow is a peachy-pink kinda shade that’s really gorgeous and could suit a variety of skin tones. You may remember the name from last week’s post where I discussed my favorite ways to combine unlikely products together to create new textures. I love to combine this powder with the clear DSL Gloss from The Sexiest Beauty to create a wet-looking, shimmery highlighter. Go check out that post (linked above) if you wanna hear more about that!
A quick note – I was very kindly gifted the Hyper Flash Powder. (Not from the brand.) What you see pictured here is a smaller sample of the powder. The regular packaging from Moonplay Cosmetics is more elaborate and contains more product.
Now, you may or may not be aware, I’m not really a fan of loose powders of any kind, whether it be for setting, eyeshadow or highlighting. I generally think they are fussy and too messy. But since I was gifted this product I wanted to play with it, obviously. And I’m glad I did!
These multi-dimensional highlighting powders, which they refer to as Stroboscope, are Moonplay’s specialty. If you glance at their website, you’ll see this formula is the only makeup product they offer. So you know it’s gotta be good.

You could use this powder in any number of ways. On your cheeks, on your eyes, or even dotted in the middle of your lips to give them a gorgeous sparkly shine. In addition to mixing it with a gloss, I also LOVE patting this all over my eyes. The first time I applied it this way, I was genuinely quite taken with both the shade and effect it gave. I loved it so much in fact that I reproduced the same look three days running.
It’s very interesting – sometimes Vow looks more glittery/sparkly, and sometimes it looks more like a metallic sheen. In the photos here, the camera picked up more on the shine rather than the sparkle. I think the effect you get all depends on how you apply the product. If you dot it in the middle of the eye for a halo-type look, it really brings out the sparkle. But when you pack it on your lids like I did above and below, it shines more like a metallic would. It’s very, very cool.
As far as the application goes, I like to use my fingers to pat this product on as I feel I can better control fall-out that way. If you prefer to use brushes, you may want to wet it first so you have more control. I bet this formula would look amazing when applied wet!
In terms of fall-out throughout the day, it’s really not bad at all surprisingly. Some shimmers and glitters like to travel downwards as the day goes on so you end up looking like a disco ball. Not with this formula. Although my mother did tell me that my lashes looked sparkly one day!
At $43.00 for the full size, this is definitely not the cheapest loose highlighting powder out there. I’m sure you can find something much more affordable from ColourPop or NYX, but if you like the idea of supporting a small indie business that manufactures their product in small, curated batches you may feel the price is justified.
