My beauty anti-wishlist January 2020

Hi friends!

It’s a New Year, a new month, and a new anti-wishlist. I’m here today to talk about all the newish or upcoming beauty launches that just don’t have me excited or jumping to open up my wallet. It’s my beauty anti-wishlist January 2020 edition!

If you’re new to my blog, every month I pick out five launches that I won’t be picking up anytime soon and I tell you why. This is all based purely on personal preference and no disrespect is meant to any brand or company. If you are interested in any of these items, that’s totally cool and I’d love to know why – you can tell me in the comments below!

If you’d like to catch up on a few of my previous lists, I’ve linked the last four below for your convenience.

December / November / October / September

Without further delay, let’s get into this month’s list!

TARTE COSMETICS SPICY BETCH PALETTE

I haven’t been intrigued by a release from Tarte in absolute ages. They’re kinda on par with Too Faced for me now; their launches come and go but I barely register them. Everything just looks the same. I believe this Spicy Betch Palette is one of their newest offerings, with 8 uber-warm metallic & matte shades. Don’t know about you, but I definitely don’t need another warm palette in my life! I’m also really pale, so I have to be extra careful with bright shades because they can look super dramatic on me super quickly. This is the type of palette I’d probably dip into one or twice and be done with it, so why bother? However, the price seems quite fair – 8 shades for $24.00 – so if you really like bright, warm colors you may love this.

BEAUTYBLENDER WAVE SHADESHIFTER MAKEUP SPONGE

I haven’t had the original beauty blender in my life for so long, but I fully stand behind its little genius. (Even though there are really good dupes out there for less than half the price, like the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.) I’m not sure what it is about that sponge, but it blends out makeup so flawlessly and effortlessly. It’s just ridiculously expensive for what it is ($20.00). This new iteration – the Wave Shadeshifter Makeup Sponge – just isn’t it. It’s such a gimmick that it’s not worth your purchase, in my opinion. This one changes color from purple to blue when activated by heat. It’s supposed to be a ‘reminder’ to wet the sponge before using it so you get the best result. That’s it, that’s the only difference from the original. Whatever you say, Beautyblender, but I’m not buying it. If you want to splurge, just get the original. Or save $15.00 and get the one from Real Techniques.

TATCHA THE KISSU LIP MASK

Source: Sephora / Instagram

I’d love to try something from Tatcha one day, but this one isn’t it I’m afraid. Actually it does sound amazing especially as someone who suffers with dry lips all year long. It’s a jelly lip mask the turns into a balm once applied to the lips; plus you don’t even have to wash it off, apparently. It sold out quickly in 2018 when it was first available as a limited edition holiday item, but now Tatcha brought it back for good. If I’m wrong on any of that info please correct me! So why am I not snatching it up to help soothe my dry lips? Simple, I’m veryyyy skeptical of pricey lip treatments. (This retails for $28.00 for 0.32 oz.) I just don’t want to spend more than $10.00-$15.00 on a lip balm or mask on principle. If anyone out there absolutely loves this and affirms that it completely changes the state of your lips, maybe I’d consider it.

JUVIA’S PLACE BRUSH ME OFF BRUSH SOAP

Source: Juvia’s Place / Instagram

I know this one is a bit random – brush soap, really? But hear me out. First off, I’ve never used a designated brush soap, either solid or liquid, to actually wash my brushes. Call me basic, but I just use good old-fashioned lukewarm water with a trace amount of dish soap. The beauty industry already gets a lot of my money; I’m not going to start buying specialty brush soap anytime soon, thanks so much. But secondly, the image is just not very visually appealing to me. I know that sounds superficial, but it’s very meaningful when you’re buying online, isn’t it? Supposedly the soap is scented like lemon cake, but that’s still not enough to get me enticed!

CHARLOTTE TILBURY PILLOW TALK INSTANT EYE PALETTE

Source: Janice Kidd Official / Instagram

Bet you’re surprised to see this make an appearance on here, huh? I’ve written a lot about the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipstick and eyeshadow palette on here, which I both love dearly. Soft, wearable pinks and browns are definitely my thing. Well, supposedly the range is expanding sometime this spring with the Pillow Talk Instant Eye Palette (I couldn’t find an exact release date anywhere). As you can see, it has 12 shades or 4 trio’s of corresponding looks for Day, Desk, Date and Dream. No doubt this palette looks absolutely beautiful, but personally I feel I have everything I need with the original 4-pan Pillow Talk Palette. Plus, this palette is really expensive at $75.00. I think I’ll pass on this one.

What’s on your beauty anti-wishlist this month? I’d love to know!

xo, Erica
