I loveeee a good blush that instantly adds color, brightness and life to my very pale complexion. But for a while there I felt myself pulling away from the bright pops of pink, coral and apricot that had dominated my blush collection for years. In their place I started sweeping bronzers across my cheeks for a more neutral look or favoring products like my beloved Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk, a nude peachy-brown tone. But when I crossed the Flesh counter at my local Ulta a few months ago, a certain pink blush just seemed to call to me. I thought it was about time I ventured back into using true color on my cheeks (although I will always love, love, love neutral tones too!). I picked up the Flesh Tender Flesh Blush in the shade Pulse, my first ever purchase from Flesh, and giddily went home to start playing!

THE COLOR
The brand describes the shade Pulse as a “shimmering dusty pink.” The shimmer contained in this product is quite subtle, so don’t worry you certainly won’t look like a disco call or a glitter-face! It’s got much more of a satin finish. I don’t quite agree with the whole “dusty pink” part of the description though. You can tell as soon as you swatch it that it’s brighter than any color you’d call “dusty” (image shown below in daylight). And once applied onto the cheeks and onto the eyes (yes, you can use blushes as eyeshadows), it’s quite punchy at least on my skin tone. To me this reads as a warmer pink with coral undertones. I absolutely love the flushed-cheek effect this color gives to my skin!

THE APPLICATION
A little goes a long way with this blush, so build slowly and use a larger powder or blush brush to apply it. You’ll get a beautiful application under those conditions. A cautionary tale – I made the mistake at first of applying way too much and using the wrong brush. I used a small, denser brush that’s typically used to buff base products out across the skin. But it made the blush looked horrible and clownish on me – ugh bad memories! So I got lighter with my hand and changed over to the Large Powder Brush from Joah Beauty – so much better! The larger, fluffier brush really dispersed the product more effectively and gently blended it in.
If you plan to use this as a sometimes eyeshadow as well, same principle applies. Build it up slowly with a fluffy blush, and keep blending as you go. It applies quite smoothly with very few harsh edges. Again, you can’t really see a lot of shimmer here; it’s more of a satin.
THE WEAR
I find the Flesh Tender Flesh Blush in Pulse wears quite well on me throughout the day. Yes, of course it fades a bit after a full day’s wear but what doesn’t? But I still notice color on my cheeks after 9 hours. In the summer that is really impressive to me! I know powder blushes usually last quite well in general, but I’ve definitely worn some that totally disappear within just a few hours of application. That’s not the case here, so this is definitely in permanent rotation in my collection now!
