Hi friends!
I’ve been loving a nice shimmery cheek lately, which is a bit different for me. For years I exclusively wore either matte or satin-textured cream or liquid blushes. Don’t get me wrong, I still loveeee my creams but I’m starting to experiment a bit more again with powder textures. So last month I picked up one of the CoverGirl Instant Cheekbones Contouring Blushes in the shade Purely Plum, and it’s giving me all that shimmery goodness I’ve been recently craving! I use it exclusively with the Must Have Multi Powder Brush from IT Cosmetics, and it’s like a match made in heaven.
COVERGIRL INSTANT CHEEKBONES CONTOURING BLUSH
This is absolutely nothing new to CoverGirl’s line-up, but the idea here is to “contour” your cheek with the three coordinated shades. To be honest, I really don’t know about that and I don’t ever try to contour with this product. I just mix and combine the shades as I like on any particular day. While I’ve pooh-poohed cheek palettes in the past (and I still do for the most part), this little guy is so small that I really don’t mind. Also, I use more than half of the shades fairly frequently so I don’t feel much is going to waste.

I believe there are only three shades available in the Instant Cheekbones line, but as mentioned above I got Purely Plum; I’ve been really into cooler pink shades on my cheeks lately. I like to mix the middle shade with the shade on the left side. The right shade is very light and acts more like a highlighter.

THE PROS
I really like the effect this product gives on the skin. You get some shimmer, a little twinkle and lots of color. I think this is especially nice at this time of year in the winter when the light is very low and diffused. Not sure how much I’ll wear this in the summertime; the shimmer may be a little too obvious in direct daylight for my liking, but we’ll see.
The longevity with this product is pretty solid. Most blushes usually fade at least half-way through the day, which is frustrating. But I still see a decent amount of both color & shimmer on my cheeks at the end of the day after 8 or 9 hours of wear; very impressive!

THE CONS
Some warnings about this product. First off, when you dip your brush in the pans there is A LOT of product that comes off, so it’s very powdery. Whatever you do, refrain from putting your brush directly onto your cheek; you’ll regret it! Tap it off really well first and then start applying.
Secondly, if you have a lot of texture on your cheeks or just don’t really like shimmer you may want to pass on this product. This is a very shimmery product that could possibly highlight texture and make it appear more obvious on the skin.
IT COSMETICS MUST HAVE MULTI POWDER BRUSH
This brush, which is part of the Heavenly Luxe 6-piece Travel Brush Set from IT Cosmetics, made it into my 2018 favorites list. (It was part of an awesome swag bag I got at a L’Oreal event last year.) The bristles are so incredibly soft, and they blend product so darn well. I truly think this brush is the reason I’m dipping back into powder blushes these days.

It’s not too large, not too big, it’s just the right size for working over the cheeks. The handle is slightly weighted, but just barely so. It’s perfect, don’t know what else to say about it!
(It doesn’t appear that you can buy this brush separately. I believe it comes with the whole set.)

(A little aside: if you have this blush and you’re really not feeling the shimmer on your cheeks, try using this as a little eyeshadow palette instead. It needs some building up on the eyes to really see the pigment, but it’s definitely workable and the effect is very pretty.)
What blushes have you been loving recently? I’d love to know!

I love CoverGirl blush! I’m so glad you shared what brush you use. I need a new one (mine is an old Avon brush) and I’ve been looking for one that’s the right size. I’ll have to check this one out! 🙂
This is my first CoverGirl blush. Have it on today and really enjoy it! Besides this shade, they also have a peachy one and a more neutral one. I’m really intrigued by the neutral one now!
Erica, your site is looking great! I like the shimmer in the highlighting color, I’ll bet it would go well in sunny weather with bright clothing 🙂
Thank you Sarah! It’s about 90% there now I think. Fingers crossed by Monday it will be 100% done and I can get back to posting again.
I’m going to try it in the spring/summer and see how I feel. But I really love the color & texture!
Hey Erica, your new site looks great and thanks for this brush and cheek bone review as I am in serious need of something like that and IT is one of my favorites product.
Thanks Bushra! So glad you like it!
I love that brush!!!!
It’s such a good one! Problem is you can’t buy it on its own sadly.
