Hi friends!
I hope you’ve been enjoying indie beauty month so far, and have discovered some new bits and brands! Today we’re continuing with the all-natural & organic cosmetic brand RMS Beauty. You may have seen their signature little glass pots deck the shelves of retailers such as Sephora, Blue Mercury, Bloomingdale’s, Anthropologie, and Credo in the U.S. (If you’re in Canada or abroad you can check their website for stockists.) They are a skincare-infused cosmetics line that heavily emphasizes the effects of nourishing, raw, & organically-certified ingredients in their products. So it ain’t just about looking good, it’s also about feeling good too.
Case in point: the RMS Beauty lip2cheek. A multi-tasking lip and cheek-staining product that’s made incredibly creamy through the inclusion of ingredients such as coconut oil, caster seed oil, shea butter, and jojoba seed oil, amongst other oils and waxes. Below you’ll find the official product description.
A multi-tasking cream color for lips and cheeks. Created with nourishing organic ingredients, each unique shade can vary from a youthful sheer to a more densely colored stain. Our lip2cheek is a unique formula that combines hydration and protection with abundant mineral color for a beautiful, natural finish on both lips and cheeks. Pigments are very concentrated so a little goes a long way. Note: colors vary on some computer screens and will not appear as dark on the skin when applied.
Non-GMO, non-nano, soy-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free.
My first lip2cheek purchase was in the shade Modest, a very punchy pink. I actually included it as one of my favorite cream blushes in an early 2018 blog post , but the texture got a bit pasty with age so I’ve since thrown that color out. So when I found myself back at Blue Mercury recently, I stared swatching the formula in different shades. I settled on the shade Spell, which the brand describes as a “modern nude dusty rose.” I‘m so glad I picked it because I’ve fallen head-over-heels for it! I’m all about the neutral brown-pinks these days, either on my lips or my cheeks.
Lemme tell you how I wear and apply it.
When you put your (clean!) finger into the pot, you immediately feel just how creamy and hydrating this formula is. If you have dry skin like me, and are always looking for ways to incorporate moisturizing formulas into your routine, you will be all over this! If you’d prefer to use a brush instead of your finger, I would recommend trying some kind of duo-fiber brush that’s good with picking up and applying cream textures. But I don’t have a problem using my fingers personally.
I gently swirl my middle finger into the color and start stippling it onto the apples of my cheeks; stippling helps to both apply the color and blend it simultaneously. I then take the color along my cheekbones, patting and stippling all the time. I always apply my blush in this general way as I like the shape it gives my face.
So far I’ve only used this as a blush. I may try it on my lips from time to time, but I see myself getting much more use out of this product as a blush rather than a colored lip balm.
Lemme talk a bit about the color and finish.
Spell is a bit deceptive in that when you swatch on your hand, the color is definitely more on the sheer side. However, you can see the shine and feel the hydration it offers to the skin though. Good news is that when you start applying Spell to the cheek, the color totally pops and comes alive! I actually like my blush to be a stronger element in my overall makeup since that’s usually the first product to fade throughout the day on me. So I’m not afraid to pile this on essentially, but if you prefer a lighter hand with your blush you may want to go slower.
The finish on the RMS Beauty lip2cheek is so incredibly lovely! It’s quite similar to the Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm but I’d say it has greater longevity. You get color but you also get this beautifully natural sheen and shine like you would get from a balm-type product. Absolutely no shimmer, pearl or glitter involved. Just pure glow. The effect will fade a bit over time (what doesn’t?), but even after a full day of wear I still see some sheen when I turn my head. Impressive!
