Hi friends!
I *believe* I might have mentioned on here some time back that I was not so impressed with the now-iconic L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara when I first tried it. I know, true story. Everyone’s favorite drugstore mascara wasn’t what I’d call a total dud, but it was just a real ‘meh’ product in my eyes (see what I did there?). Like everyone else, I saw Tati’s video way back in 2017 where she went a bit gaga over it, and because I’m so easily influenced I pretty much rushed right out to buy it.
If you’re completely new to makeup and have no idea what L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara is or what it’s supposed to do, take a quick peek at the official product description below:
Voluptuous Volume. Intense Length. Full Lash Fringe, Feathery Soft.
Take your lashes to paradise with voluptuous volume & intense length. Soft wavy bristle brush holds the maximum amount of formula. 200+ bristles catch every lash for a dramatic volumizing effect. Silky smooth formula glides on evenly and easily. This volumizing and lengthening mascara delivers a full lash fringe that’s feathery soft. No flaking. No smudging. No clumping. Women agreed: 91%* saw intense & volumized lashes and 87%* saw more beautiful lashes. +98%* lengthening effect. 1 sold every 5 seconds.**

So, basically, a lot of length, volume and drama is what L’Oreal is selling you here. Normally these are all the qualities I look for in a mascara; I want the maximum effect I can get without the look of chunky spider lashes.

I tried Jessica Alba’s mascara trick and here’s what I think!
Dense bristle brush on the L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara
So normally you would think I would have LOVED Lash Paradise from the off. I mean, look at that brush! I adore really dense, fluffy bristle brushes since they tend to catch and coat every little lash. But after I applied it, I just…didn’t see the appeal. It looked like a lot of other mascaras on me; nothing spectacular or noteworthy. So, naturally, I scoffed at all the others who extolled its “supposed” glories over the past few years. You can do much better, I always thought. Try Maybelline Total Temptation, or Kokie Volume + Length.
Fast forward now to summer 2020. Like I said, I’m very easily influenced. This time it was while watching a Nadine Baggott video, one of my newer obsessions on YouTube and Instagram (please check her out, she’s amazing). She positively mentioned Lash Paradise right at the beginning of the aforementioned video, and immediately I thought to myself, I need to give that another chance. Did I apply it wrong? Did I get a bad tube? I was keen to find out, so off to CVS I went.
Two coats of the L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara applied on my top lashes. I use a different product for my lower lashes.
Let me tell you, I was about to write this product off all over again after I applied my first coat! I was just about to slide the brush back into the tube, when I thought to myself, try applying another coat. Well, I’m glad I did…gorgeous, beautiful lashes! The formula builds on itself really, really well without getting clumpy – it’s somewhere between a wet and a dry formula, I’d say. But the drama it gives with two coats as opposed to one is just insane! My lashes are so much longer, so much thicker, and super black.
This might seem like a real ‘duh’ moment to some of you reading this. Perhaps you always apply two coats, but I don’t always do that. If a mascara can give me what I need in the first coat, I stop there. Even though I LOVE mascara and think it’s absolutely essential in any makeup routine, I find applying it very tedious; that’s why I usually go for those quick one-coat wonders like Bobbi Brown Smokey Eyes or Maybelline Total Temptation.
I’m so glad that I decided to give Lash Paradise another chance! I will sincerely enjoy using up this new tube. Have you ever given a beauty product another chance? Was it positive or negative? I’d love to know!
xo, and be well, Erica
