A drugstore dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Palette?

If someone asked you – would you pay top dollar for a product that you can get a version of at a much lower price point – how would you respond? I think most people would answer – I’ll take the lower cost option, thanks! Well that’s the kind of post I’ve got for you all today. Oh, you’re gonna love it! I found a comparable drugstore item to the beloved Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Palette*!

Yup, you read that right. If you can’t or won’t pay the luxury price tag for the Pillow Talk Palette, you can still get the same overall effect with the L’Oreal Paradise Enchanted Scented Eye Shadow Palette*. My posts on anything by Charlotte Tilbury are far and away my most trafficked articles on here. People are always searching for lower-cost dupes for her products, so hopefully you guys agree with me on this comparison!

I’ll start by doing a quick overview of each palette separately, and then I’ll dive into the similarities between them. Enjoy!

CHARLOTTE TILBURY PILLOW TALK LUXURY PALETTE

Charlotte is known for her beautifully luxe eyeshadow quads; I believe they were the original products that launched her brand. The Pillow Talk Palette debuted last year and everyone just went gaga for the soft & wearable pinks, browns and rose golds. Who wouldn’t love that color story?? I think it was originally supposed to be limited edition, because I remember it selling out very quickly. But then it came back and apparently it’s here to stay in her permanent line.

All of Charlotte’s quads are set up in a similar way – the shades are meant to Prime, Enhance, Smoke, and Pop. I’ve put the corresponding shades from the Pillow Talk Palette below, as these are the colors we’re looking to dupe. Swatches to follow below.

• PRIME – the pearly pink champagne shade (bottom left);
• ENHANCE – the matte soft pink shade (top left);
• SMOKE – the matte warm brown shade (top right);
• POP – the rose gold glitter top coat (bottom right).

But they ain’t called Luxury Palettes for nothing! This retails for a whopping $53.00 for 4 shades. That being said, I picked this up earlier this year without hesitation and with great excitement, because I absolutely love Charlotte’s shadows. They are buttery smooth, pigmented as all get out, and practically blend themselves. In other words, the Pillow Talk Palette did not disappoint me in any way.

But it was always in the back of my mind – what’s at the drugstore that’s comparable in terms of color story? Enter L’Oreal.

L’OREAL PARADISE ENCHANTED SCENTED EYE SHADOW PALETTE

The Paradise Enchanted Scented Eye Shadow Palette debuted last year as well, and to be honest I wasn’t interested at all in it at the time. It was part of a whole peach-scented collection from L’Oreal that seemed gimmicky to me. But when I was searching online for a drugstore palette with similar tones to the Pillow Talk Palette, this one kept popping up. Off to CVS I went!

It retails for $14.99 (but Target* & Amazon have it listed for cheaper) and you get 12 shades of pinky-peaches, warm browns, rose golds and light cranberries. You also get a variety of finishes here, from mattes to metallics and shimmers.

A bit of a warning: these shadows are quite powdery, and can take some building up on the eye. Some that contain sparkle can be a bit flakey as well. That being said, once they’re built up the colors are beautiful, and all of the finishes blend out surprisingly well over a primer. They last as long as higher-end shadows without much creasing (at least on me). Not bad!

And don’t let the whole scented thing deter you. This has a very subtle peach scent that doesn’t linger at all, and thankfully didn’t irritate my eyes. But if you are super, super sensitive to fragrance perhaps steer clear of this. Honestly there’s really no reason for this product to be scented in the first place. It’s just a gimmick.

SO ARE THEY DUPES OR WHAT??

 

I have both palettes swatched on my arms in the photo directly above. My left arm displays the Charlotte Tilbury shadows from the Pillow Talk Palette, and my right arm displays a mix of corresponding shadows from the L’Oreal Paradise Enchanted Palette. In the photo, the shades look almost exactly the same. In real life, I wouldn’t say the tones are 100% dupes of each other, but they are pretty darn close after application.

It’s important to note that there’s no one shade from the L’Oreal palette that directly dupes a Charlotte Tilbury shade; you will have to mix shades together to get a similar look to the Pillow Talk Palette. But remember, you do have 12 shades to play with in the L’Oreal palette. Below you’ll find the mixes I used to achieve similar colors to the Pillow Talk Palette. Unfortunately, none of the L’Oreal shades have names.

• Pillow Talk PRIME shade – mix shades 3 and 10 from L’Oreal
• Pillow Talk ENHANCE shade – mix shades 4 & 7 from L’Oreal
• Pillow Talk SMOKE shade – mix shades 8 & 9 from L’Oreal
• Pillow Talk POP shade – mix shades 3 & 5 from L’Oreal

So are these palettes total dupes? Nope. Like I said, the tones aren’t 100% the same, nor are the textures. However, they look so incredibly similar when applied to the eye that their differences are basically negligible. Check out the makeup look I did with both palettes below.

 

On my left eye, I applied shadows from the Pillow Talk Palette. On my right eye, I applied shadows from the Paradise Enchanted Palette. Can you honestly tell the difference?? Exactly!
