These creamy bronzers are perfect for summer!

Two creamy bronzers from Milk Makeup and Lune + Aster

Hi friends!

Summer is officially here, so in celebration I’m talking about bronzer all throughout the month of June. First I shared two warm-toned beauties from my collection that really give me that dramatic summer sun-kissed glow. Second we delved into some more neutral, subtle options for those who are bronzer-averse out there. In today’s final post in this series we’re switching up the textures and talking about creamy bronzers that I think are great for lighter summertime wear. You all know how I much I love my cream textures, so if you’re on the hunt for something that will give you the ultimate natural finish; or if you have dry skin and just prefer the moisturizing texture of creams; these options may be worth checking out.

Also, if you prefer your makeup to be both cruelty-free and vegan, these both tick the boxes.

Without further delay, let’s get into it!

I did an entire review on this stick bronzer back in January (which you can read here). But in short this is a highly moisturizing formula that should satisfy anyone out there who loves cream products, or even beginners looking to start experimenting with creams. It’s a big stick so it’s made for on-the-go, quick application but I prefer to get the product onto a duo-fiber brush and gently swirl it onto my face. It builds quite well without depositing too much product at one time. I’ve also never experienced any patchiness or lifting of my base underneath, so lovely, lovely.

The finish on the skin is somewhere between matte and what I call “naturally” radiant. There is no shimmer or sparkle to be seen, but due to its moisturizing formula you get a very hydrated, plush look to the skin. As a dry-skinned person year round, this is the pinnacle of all finishes for me!

I have the shade Baked, which is the lighter of the two. Yup, just two shades; one light and one dark. It’s simply not enough. Baked is certainly not light enough for me but because it’s so buildable I can make it work. I do have to be careful about the undertone as it pulls quite yellow/orange against my cool skin. I’d say if you are anywhere on the light to medium skin spectrum, you could probably get away with using Baked; really fair skins, forget about it. So great product, Milk, but you just need to bring out lighter and darker shades.

Again, I did an entire review of this palette which also includes a cream highlighter and “illuminator,” so if you’re interested in a total deep-dive you can check that out here. If you’re not familiar with Lune + Aster, it’s an in-house vegan brand from luxury retailer Bluemercury. The bronzer is without a doubt, hands-down, the most effective element of this trio since it doesn’t take tons of buildup to get an effect. But if you are a fan of super subtle sheeny highlighters you’ll probably love this entire palette.

The bronzer looks really dark, but in actuality it’s quite a sheer cream that you can gradually build up in intensity. But don’t be fooled, you will not be able to build it up to the intensity you see in the pan. (That’s why this wouldn’t suit deeper skin tones.) I usually apply 2 to 3 thin layers either with my fingers or a dense buffing brush; it’s extremely easy to apply either way. This is a formula that could work across a multitude of skin types as it’s a cream-to-powder that sits very lightly on the skin; it sets so there’s really no tackiness at all.

The finish here is very different to the Milk Makeup. You’re not going to get that plush hydrated look, but instead you’ll get micro-shimmer. I know some people always prefer their bronzers to be matte, but the shimmer here is not overly offensive in any way (at least to me). Really they should sell the bronzer as an individual product and just expand the shade range – that would be amazing!
