July’s spotlight on indie beauty continues today with Pixi Beauty, a perhaps more well-known indie that’s stocked exclusively at Target in the U.S. I’ve been a fan of Pixi products for years now, and I absolutely love their signature minty-green packaging! I think it really makes them stand out on the shelves from their competitors. Their pricing sits somewhere between drugstore and mid-market, but I would definitely still refer to them as an overall more affordable brand.

You may remember that I’ve been a huge fan of the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara for years and years, which I spoke about at length in this post. Yes, I like to use a separate mascara for my lower lashes people. Not sure about you, but I simply cannot abide by “panda eyes” caused by smudgy mascara. But I’ve always been curious to see if I can find another great option, preferably at the drugstore. So in my quest, I’ve been road-testing the Pixi Lower Lash Mascara for the past month or so. Should you snatch it or skip it? Read on!

THE LOWDOWN ON MY EXPERIENCE
Lemme just start by talking about my initial feelings on this product. I straight-up hated it! I swear the first two to three times I went to use this, I could barely get any product onto my lashes no matter how much I wiggled the brush. It almost felt like the product had already dried out! I honestly thought I bought a bad tube of this stuff.
I was just about to return it to Target, but I thought I’d try using it one more time just to be entirely sure. Wouldn’t you know just like magic, it finally started to deposit product on my lashes. Maybe it needed some kind of warm-up period? Not sure, but it was odd. So this is definitely a much drier formula than the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara, for instance.

I do find the long thin wand a bit awkward to use, especially when I cross over to my left eye (I’m right-handed). I sometimes feel like I’m going to poke myself in the eye, which is not the case when I use the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara. It definitely does its job in terms of not smudging or flaking, which is awesome. But you may have to work a bit harder to get enough product on your lashes.
So luckily I’ve stopped hating it at this point, but I’m definitely not in love. I’d say this gets a solid LIKE from me. I will definitely keep using it until it completely dries out, but I’ll likely not repurchase it.
SO…SNATCH IT OR SKIP IT?
I’d say skip the Pixi Lower Lash Mascara and go straight for the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara. There’s barely a price difference between them (Pixi is $11.00 while Clinique is $12.00), and in my opinion the Clinique is much more user-friendly. The brush is much smaller than the Pixi, and the formula is wetter and easier to apply.
