My beauty anti-wishlist March 2020

Hi friends!

It’s that time once again where I pick out five new or upcoming beauty launches that won’t be making it into either my virtual or physical cart anytime soon. Yup, it’s my beauty anti-wishlist March 2020 edition!

If you’re new around here, this is a monthly series I’ve been doing for quite a while now. Obviously I have not tried any of these products before, so I realize it is a bit like judging a book by its cover. But hey, we all do that from time to time; it’s allowed! Of course, no disrespect is intended and if you are excited for any of these launches, that’s awesome. I’d love to know why too, so tell me in the comments! This is just based on my personal preferences.

TOM FORD BEAUTY SHADE AND ILLUMINATE SOFT RADIANCE FOUNDATION WITH SPF 50

 

So I know that I wrote up a whole post on where to spend and where to save on money when shopping for makeup. And I know that I mentioned base (or foundation) as something I think you should spend some extra bucks in order to get good quality and good color. Well, this new Shade and Illuminate Soft Radiance Foundation from Tom Ford is just a little too pricey for my taste…like $150.00 too pricey. C’mon, really?? Listen I’m sure it’s beautiful on the skin, but there’s absolutely no reason whatsoever that you need to spend that much on a foundation if you want medium-to-full coverage, skincare benefits and SPF. You could easily go to IT Cosmetics and pick up their famous Your Skin But Better CC Cream, which will give you the same benefits. The only caveat is that the Tom Ford offers a lot more shade choices (35 to the IT Cosmetics‘ 12). But still, that’s not a justification in the slightest for such a steep price, at least in my opinion.

COLOURPOP THE FULL BEAT BLENDING SPONGE KIT

 

I have to admit, I’m sooo attracted to these pastel blending sponges! They remind me of those plastic Easter eggs where you hid jellybeans or candy-coated chocolate eggs in. But despite loving its appearance, this 5-part blending sponge kit from ColourPop just wouldn’t be a practical purchase for me since I never use sponges anymore to apply my makeup. I don’t know why either, to be honest. I used to absolutely love the finish that sponges gave, but somewhere along the line I just stopped picking them up. Now I either use my fingers or a soft brush when working with foundation and/or concealer. This kit has 5 sponges for only $20, which seems an absolute steal. However, for some odd reason I can’t seem to find this kit on ColourPop’s website, but you can buy the sponges individually at $7/pop.

PATRICK TA BEAUTY MAJOR BROW SHAPING WAX

 

There’s not too much info available right now online about this upcoming launch from Patrick Ta Beauty, nor can I find the exact release date anywhere. But from what I can tell it’s a brow wax (and brush) that promises to give you that “imperfect perfect” brow look in either a clear formulation or a color tint. Now, I strive for “imperfect perfect” every time I do my brows but I think it’s the whole format of this product that’s turning me off. The brow wax in its own compact with a separate brush – it just seems like it would be too fussy for me in the end. I like to spend as little time on my brows as possible so using a tinted brow mascara is a god-send to a lazy person like me! I don’t see myself taking a brush out, rubbing it into wax, and then applying that to my brows. One step too much, I say.

VISEART PETIT PRO CHOU CHOU PALETTE

 

I don’t have much experience using Viseart shadows myself, but from what I’ve seen and heard on social media their stuff is seriously good quality. I’m definitely curious to dip my toe in, and I feel their little Petit Pro Palettes would be a good place to start. However, the Chou Chou Petit Pro Palette wouldn’t be my first choice of color story. Apparently this is inspired by summers in the South of France with bright flashes of color and shimmering textures. I rarely wear bright shades so if I only have one palette in my collection with brights, that’s more than enough for a lifetime for me. I just don’t think I’d get much use from colors like this, and there’s nothing worse than a beautiful item that goes unloved in your collection. By the way, I think this palette may be exclusive to Beautylish, but I’m not 100% sure.

GLOSSIER SKYWASH EYESHADOW

 

Skywash was Glossier’s last big launch in late February, and I admit I was super intrigued at first. They describe these eyeshadows as “sheer matte lid tints” with a liquid-to-powder texture. Supposedly they are buildable to a certain extent, and long-wearing. But the more and more I heard customer feedback on Instagram, I became hesitant to get my wallet out. I absolutely love the idea of sheer wash of color on the eye, but some customers were contesting the whole buildable pigment claim and complaining about how difficult the texture was to blend before it dried down. I saw an influencer apply and blend a few of the colors on her eyes on an Instagram Story, and they look patchy and choppy as hell. That’s a ‘no thanks’ from me. If I’m purchasing anything from Glossier, I’d sooner pick up Futuredew than this launch.
