Hi friends!
So I managed to snag one of Lisa Eldridge’s new True Velvet Lipsticks when her nude collection launched in early November. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, or who Lisa Eldridge is, check out this post for more info. This is my first purchase from her small indie brand, and I couldn’t wait to actually see, feel, and apply the shade Velvet Muse!
Unfortunately this shade sold out pretty quickly so you won’t be able to get it probably until next year, according to Lisa. However, I’ll be focusing more on the texture of the lipstick in this review, and from what I’ve read online all the shades pretty much have a similar texture. As of right now writing this post, three shades of the six from the nude collection are still available for purchase. So you can still get the whole True Velvet experience if you so wish!
I got my package about two weeks ago in the mail and have been testing the lipstick ever since. So today I’m ready to give you my thoughts on the Lisa Eldridge Velvet Muse Lipstick!
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A sensual, smoky rosewood shade with the perfect mix of pinky brown and dirty rose undertones to make this shade super wearable across a wide variety of skintones.
Saturated and highly pigmented lipstick with a beautiful, true velvet effect on the surface of the bullet which looks exactly like velvet fabric. The formulation is a creamy, hydrating matte with a slight sheen – it’s not a flat matte. The colour is long wearing and non drying to the lips.
All my lipsticks are 100% cruelty free.
MY THOUGHTS ON PACKAGING
Oh my gosh, so nice! The lipstick is contained in a smooth-as-hell gold case that’s a pleasure to both hold and look at. It also has a lovely magnetic closure so you shouldn’t have to worry about the cap popping off. Lisa’s logo is at the top, with the shade name at the bottom (obvs). The outer box was really nice as well – very sturdy paper packaging. Nothing cheap or ill-considered at all.
But the bestest best thing about the packaging is the faux-velvet effect that the lipstick has around the entire bullet (detail photo below). It’s supposed to mimic the texture of actual velvet fabric, and it’s just so cool and beautiful. The attention to detail is insane.
RATING: 5 / 5 ⭐️
MY THOUGHTS ON APPLICATION
Very easy, very creamy formula here. You don’t have to sit there and keep applying layer after layer of product to build up the color either. It’s pretty much full pigment from first swipe. I also haven’t had much difficulty in perfecting my lip line when applying this lipstick either. It just really glides along the contours of your lips.
For reference, I don’t bother with lip liners or lip brushes personally. I just apply straight from the bullet, and then move and smoosh the color in with a gentle pat of my finger.

Lisa Eldridge Velvet Muse Lipstick in all its glory. I applied it before taking these photos so the bullet isn’t totally pristine!
MY THOUGHTS ON COLOR
Velvet Muse is the perfect mid-tone rose shade. It has some depth to it but it’s by no means a “deep” shade. It’s the perfect balance of a warm pink mixed with red and brown. It’s totally unique in my collection and just gorgeous!
RATING: 5 / 5 ⭐️
MY THOUGHTS ON FINISH
I’d definitely call it a velvety matte, as the name would imply. A bit similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks, I’d say. I’m not sure about the “slight sheen” that Lisa references in the product description, but I assume it’s just referring to the fact that it’s not completely flat like some true mattes can be. Your lips won’t look like they’re all one tone, if that makes sense.

MY THOUGHTS ON WEAR
Actually I’d say Velvet Muse wears quite similarly to the Maybelline SuperStay Ink Crayon on me. Both apply very easily, and both are very creamy and comfortable on the lips. I would say that Velvet Muse stays a bit creamier for longer though. But both formulas have a kind of dry-down that leaves behind a beautiful veil of color but with a total weightless texture.
I would agree that this lipstick is long-wearing, but you’ll definitely need to touch up after a meal or lots of drinking. The creaminess of the lipstick will wear away as well even if color is left behind. But honestly most matte lipsticks follow this same pattern, so I’m not disappointed. (I’m excluding liquid lipsticks from this conversation since you can’t make a fair comparison here.)
RATING: 5 / 5 ⭐️
MY THOUGHTS ON PRICE
All the True Velvet Lipsticks, including Velvet Muse, retail for £26.00 or roughly $33.00 based on today’s exchange rate. To me anything less than $40.00 is mid-market and not luxury. That’s an amazing price for the quality, packaging, unique color and attention to detail you’re getting with these lipsticks. Plus I paid no shipping either – total steal!
RATING: 5 / 5 ⭐️
FINAL THOUGHTS
If you’re looking to treat yourself or someone else this holiday season, I would strongly suggest snagging one of these True Velvet Lipsticks! Everything about them feels beautiful and luxurious, but they don’t cost an arm and a leg. As I mentioned earlier, although Velvet Muse is out of stock, there are three nude shades still available (Velvet Fawn, Velvet Decade, & Velvet Midnight) plus her original three red shades. Plenty to choose from.
Did you get any of Lisa Eldridge’s True Velvet Lipsticks this time around? I’d love to know!
xo, Erica
PIN IT!
What a beautiful color! I love the case it comes in, too. So pretty!
It’s a stunner! 😍
I’m so happy her lipsticks have been a success, she’s such a knowledgeable MUA and has so many useful tricks. The faux velvet detailing is very pretty and the initiails on the gold lid is a nice touch x
I totally agree. I trust her tips and knowledge implicitly!
Erica, I totally adore this color. What a soft and rich look. You look even prettier. Love your post.
It’s such a stunning shade isn’t it?? Lisa is very clever with colors and really seems to understand color theory so well. Thanks so much for your kind words and encouragement as always!
That’s a beautiful lipstick and it seems like it knocked all your expectations out of the park lol. Looks great on you.
Thanks babe! Yea, it’s totally lovely but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Lisa 😊😉.
Ah how lucky that you were able to snag this before it sold out! My eyes widened at the cool faux velvet texture around the bullet, I’ve never seen that & I really like when the caps are magnetic. So happy you’re loving this, Erica, it’s super pretty on you. 🙂
Thanks so much girl! I was so happy too that I snatched it – her stuff usually sells out quite quickly so you gotta be fast. The whole packaging is just super stunning and so thoughtful.
I can never get anything that sells out fast! By the time I hear about something, everyone has already bought it & tried it out for a week lol.
Must have missed this comment, sorry! Usually I don’t go for hyped products and wait by my computer to buy something. Life is too short. But her lipsticks are definitely the exception for me!
That’s okay!! I’ve never waited by my computer for a product either because like you said, life is too short but, if it was something I really wanted like you with this lipstick, it’s worth it. 🙂
Totally!
