Introducing Ilia Beauty Color Block Lipstick

Ilia Beauty Color Block Lipstick in Amberlight

Hi friends!

If you missed my intro post, I’m spotlighting lipsticks all throughout the month of April. That is, both lipsticks that are new to my collection, and older ones that I want to try and rediscover. In the first installment, I shared my thoughts on the beautiful Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color, a rediscovery that I’ve decided to keep. Today I’m featuring one of the newest entrants to my collection – the Ilia Beauty Color Block Lipstick*. This was part of the very generous gift bag I received at the launch of their Super Serum Skin Tint back in February, so it has Ilia’s gorgeous rebranded nude packaging. Just to be clear this is not a new product to their line, but it’s totally new to me.

I’ve been testing out this baby for a while now, so let’s talk about whether I like it or not, and if I’ll keep it in my collection!

THE DEETS ON THE ILIA BEAUTY COLOR BLOCK LIPSTICK

A richly pigmented vegan lipstick that delivers lasting coverage in one smooth application.

Clean color, high pigment, and performance driven. We reimagined our lipsticks to be long-wearing, truly hydrating and provide full coverage in just one swipe. Color Block High Impact Lipstick is crafted by hand and milled with customized pigments in organic castor seed oil to offer four times more pigment than any lipstick we’ve ever made. Lips are left feeling supple and cared for even after several hours of wear.

DO I LOVE IT, HATE IT, OR FEEL JUST A BIT MEH?

I love it! It’s extremely creamy, pigmented and comfy to wear. What else could you ask for in a lipstick?? You definitely don’t need to spend time building this up; you get full pigment from first swipe.

In terms of finish, I’d say this is somewhere between a really comfortable matte and a satin texture. Actually, I find the texture very similar to my beloved Flower Beauty Mix n’ Matte Lip Duo (the matte lipstick side that is) in that they’re both very hydrating and have that nearly matte finish. I would say that the Color Block Lipstick is just a tad more balmy than the Flower Beauty. (Will she ever stop talking about that lipstick, you may ask. The answer is no. No I won’t, it’s that good!) From the drugstore, this is very similar to the CoverGirl Exhibitionist Lipstick in that, again, they’re both very hydrating while delivering amazing color and coverage.

I was gifted the shade Amberlight, which honestly could not have been a better tone for me, so thank you Ilia! They call it a “French Nude” on their website with a neutral undertone; it definitely has some soft pink and beige tones in there. (It’s almost an exact dupe for Sultry Sienna from the CoverGirl Exhibitionist line, if you want a more affordable option.)

The Color Block Lipstick is moderately long-wearing. You can get a decent few hours of wear without much eating or drinking, but after a big meal most of it will be worn off with a few remnants left here and there.

WILL I KEEP IT OR DECLUTTER IT?

Absolutely keep it. I’ve enjoyed wearing this not only on my lips, but also on my cheeks and my eyes. It’s really beautiful on the eyes, believe it or not, and over a long-wearing base I found it barely creased on me! I have to say I’m continually impressed with the performance of Ilia products. They’re just so freaking good, and the Color Block Lipstick is no exception. If you want to treat yourself to a little something special during this awful time that looks and feels luxe and well-crafted, I’d definitely recommend this lipstick.

Have you tried the Color Block Lipstick? What new lippie do you love in your collection? I’d love to know!

xo, and be well, Erica
