Instagram images that have inspired me, Vol. 5

Hi friends!

It’s been over a month since my last post featuring inspiring beauty images from Instagram, so I thought it was high time for another installment. If you’re new to my blog, every month I post a few beautiful and eye-catching images that I’ve cherry-picked from IG to share with you all. I feature anything from big beauty campaigns, to the work of MUAs, to product flat-lays and other things of that nature. But I do like to throw in a “wildcard” image or two, unrelated to beauty, just to keep things interesting and varied.

Catch up on all my previous IG lists: Vol. 1, Vol. 2, Vol. 3, Vol. 4.

So without further ado, here are January’s picks!

Beauty Pie IG image

I love most of the images that @beautypie uploads to their IG grid to be honest, so I could have picked any one of them. But I just loved the black against the rose gold color of this particular highlighter, and the play of light and shadows together. I also love the type Beauty Pie uses for their logo; very clean & modern. There’s just something to be said about simple, yet effective photography, and that’s what I feel Beauty Pie does really well on Instagram.

Pat McGrath Labs IG image

I didn’t even read the caption on this image from @patmcgrathreal, I just immediately snapped a pic of it! How gorgeous and beautiful is this?? Even though one of their glitter lipsticks did end up on my December anti-wishlist (which you can read here), I still do appreciate just how striking a shiny, glittery lip can look on camera. Pat McGrath Labs probably does some of the most beautiful cosmetic imagery on Instagram (in my opinion), so it was only a matter of time before one of said images made it to this list.

Kind-ly IG image

@KIND-LY is a natural Australian brand known for their deodorants, in case you were wondering. But this image has nothing to do with deodorant, and I love that! The caption definitely says it all here. It’s funny because I’m really not one for affirmations personally, but this one struck me and made me stop scrolling for more than 5 seconds (which is always a telling sign). I think it’s because the photo has an almost retro feel to it.

Drunk Elephant IG image

OK, so truth time: I’ve never tried one product from @drunkelephant (yet). Everyone else and their mother, sister & grandma seem to be obsessed with this brand, and I don’t know what it is. Does it seem like they came out of nowhere for anyone else, or is just me? Anyway, that’s besides the point in this case. Despite never having tried anything from them, I do really appreciate Drunk Elephant’s packaging and overall style. I picked this image because – hello – there’s pink everywhere, and again I love the play of shadows & light. I also love the different textures here, like the basket, the candle, the magazines, etc.

@clumsy_girl_makeup IG image

I’ve been following blogger Kelsie Marie from @clumsy_girl_makeup for a while now, and she does some really awesome looks. Her account stands out to me for two reasons: she often features indie brands, and she plays with color in a lot of interesting ways (something I’m trying to do more of). Case in point: this image. I love the interplay of the warm tones on the top lid and the cooler tones underneath the eye; it’s like color theory in action, totally cool! She also does some amazing swatch photos, so if you’re into that definitely follow her!

Linda Hallberg IG image

Isn’t this just the most amazing eye look?? The colors are just beautiful: intense but kinda soft at the same time. And the dimension created by that silvery, almost pewder color on the inner corner of the eye? Perfection! I also love the brushed-up, full brows and the draping of the pink blush high up on the cheeks. I haven’t tried any cosmetics from MUA @lindahallberg’s range yet, but I really want to! I’ve only heard good things about her products so far.

Shaunasever IG image

And now time for the non-beauty images! I follow cookbook author @shaunasever over on my personal IG account (@erica10803 if you’re interested in following me over there), and her account is filled with the most delicious, scrumptious-looking baked goods! Who doesn’t love a streusel-topping?? And with icing as well? Forget it, I couldn’t resist!

@birchbox IG image

I’m just loving all these Bird Box memes, aren’t you? There’s one funnier than the next! (P.S. if you saw Bird Box, what did they think??)

What images have inspired you recently, on Instagram or elsewhere? I’d love to know!

A chat with creator Priyanka Patel of Glamour and Giggles

Hi friends!

It’s my 100th post on We are glamerus today <insert cheering now>, and it’s a really special one that I’m so excited about! I recently had the privilege of interviewing Priyanka Patel, the amazing beauty & lifestyle creator behind the blog Glamour and Giggles. Her site is a hub of information not only for all things makeup & skincare, but also for self-improvement, & self-care tips. Priyanka boasts a huge social media presence, and has built a highly successful personal brand that is sought after by a swath of global brands including ColourPop, Neutrogena, Dove & Toyota, just to name a few.

She speaks to her thousands of followers not only about the newest beauty releases but also about insecurities, mental health, self-worth, and being “your own kind of beautiful” (the tagline of her blog). Above all else, Priyanka is genuine & approachable. I hope you enjoy our chat below 😊.

Follow Priyanka across her socials on Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, & Facebook.

Were you one of those fortunate people who realized their career path at a young age?

Not at all, I was never clear on the career path I wanted to take; all I knew is I wanted to help people. My family wanted me to become a pharmacist or nurse, but I knew from the very beginning that those fields were not for me. However, not wanting to crush their dreams, I went into undergrad with the goal of going to Pharmacy school. Long story short, I did not do well in my classes, switched majors, and ended up graduating with a degree in History.

At this point, I still had no idea what I wanted to do and decided to get my Masters in Health Administration, thinking it was a way to help people in the healthcare field; a win for me and win for my family who wanted me in the healthcare field. Grad school was when I became clear on what I ultimately wanted to do with my life – meaningful work that empowers others without restricting myself in one industry. I currently work in healthcare, in a non profit organization that provides advocacy services to long-term care residents. I also have Glamour and Giggles where I empower my audience to live their happiest lives and create beauty, lifestyle, and self-care content!

You’re a first generation Indian-American who grew up in California, and moved to Kentucky a few years ago. How has your cultural & geographic identity formed your online presence, if at all?

I was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Kentucky in my early twenties. Growing up, I saw the beauty created when different cultures came together; that translated into my online presence by promoting inclusivity and encouraging diversity.

My geographic identity definitely transformed my online presence when I moved to Kentucky. I didn’t realize the level of my impact until I began connecting with local creators. This pushed me to be more aware and create more personalized and intimate content for my audience. Both my cultural and geographic identities have guided me in the direction I always envisioned Glamour and Giggles to strive towards.

What came first for you – blogging or social media? Or did they grow simultaneously?

Social media came first. I used to use it for fun and didn’t realize my level of impact or how skilled I was with it until friends and followers told me so. I created my blog shortly after, and as they say, the rest is history.

What is your opinion on the title ‘social media influencer’? Some prefer to be called ‘content creators’ instead. Do you have a personal preference?

I sometimes do cringe when I hear the title “social media influencer” and do prefer the title “content creator,” only because I create content on more platforms than social media (like my website).

Talk a little bit about Boss Babes Institute, and why empowering others is so important to you.

Boss Babes Institute is a private group for individuals who are or aspiring to be social media influencers, bloggers, or content creators. Members of BBI will learn how to fearlessly be the boss babe they’ve envisioned, with tips regarding blogging and social media basics, social media growth, making money with your brand, and more! BBI members will also have access to the FB group and have meaningful conversations with fellow boss babes.

My ultimate goal with BBI is to empower aspiring and current boss babes. Empowering others is incredibly important to me because everyone deserves support in reaching their dreams. The world is large enough for everyone who wants to be a boss babe, and it seems like there is more competition than support on social media; the scales should be the opposite.

(Boss Babes Institute is a private Facebook group. If you’re interested in joining, message Priyanka on any of her social accounts linked above.)

You’ve worked with a very wide range of brands. What are the determining factors in selecting the right brand partnerships for you?

The top 2 determining factors for brand partnerships are:

  • My personal thoughts of the brand
  • Will this partnership benefit or appeal to my audience?

If there’s a brand I don’t support or don’t feel will be a good fit for my audience, it’s an automatic no. It’s also an automatic no if a partnership asks me to do something that compromises my integrity, like requiring a positive review of a product or asking me to not disclose a partnership.

What are you most excited for in 2019? Could be anything personal or professional.

I am really excited for more personal development and putting and prioritizing my physical and mental health. I’m also excited (and nervous) for challenging myself in all aspects of life. One of my biggest challenges is starting a youtube channel – I get anxiety just thinking about sitting in front of a camera and talking for so many minutes.

If you could give up-and-coming bloggers one single piece of advice, what would it be?

Focus on your path and don’t compare yourself with others.

Instagram images that have inspired me, Vol. 4

Hi friends!

It’s time for another round of eye-catching and gorgeous Instagram imagery! If you’re new here, each month I pick 9 pics (why it’s not 10, I don’t know!) from my IG feed that I personally think are very inspiring to share with you all. Usually they’re beauty-related in some way, but I like to also throw in at least one wildcard image to shake things up. And since it’s December now, I thought it would only be fitting to include a few holiday pics too.

So without further delay, let’s get into it!

Catch up on my previous IG lists here: Vol. I, Vol. II, Vol III.

carolinedemagrietig

Isn’t this lovely & soothing? As the viewer, I love how we’re catching the early rays of sun as they start lighting up this hotel room. Little items around the room add necessary points of interest, like the orchid on the table or the fur coat thrown over the chair, so we’re not just looking at the sun but also within the room. This image has an almost voyeuristic feel to it, which I like as well. Like you’re waiting for @carolinedemaigret or someone else to come walking across the room to pick up their cell phone from a side table. P.S. if you’re not familiar with Caroline de Maigret, she’s a French model & music producer who works with Lancome & Chanel, I believe.

colourpopjellyhighlighters

If you’ve seen any of my earlier Instagram lists, you’ll know that I loveeee a bit of texture. I’m so surprised that I hadn’t included a @colourpopcosmetics visual until now, but this particular one really struck me. Look at all that gold, copper & champagne!! I believe these are their Jelly Much Shadows, but I’m not 100% sure. I know jelly has become a bit of a trend in makeup recently, but I haven’t particularly fallen for it yet myself. I only have one item in my makeup collection that’s jelly-textured but I don’t really reach for it much. However, I absolutely love how jellies photograph, so I couldn’t pass this one up.

covetingbeautyig

I only recently discovered UK blogger Leah of @covetingbeauty on Instagram, but wow, I absolutely love her content! She posts lush and beautiful images like this one, showcasing her favorite skincare, makeup & haircare products. I could have picked any of her images to feature here to be honest since I love them all. But don’t you just love that pink, silky scrunchie in the foreground & the drawing of the woman’s silhouette in the background?? Details like that make this for me. I think I’m most attracted by Leah’s choice of color palette on her IG page: pale whites, pinks, golds, & blues. It’s just so pleasing to the eye, and there’s something so calming about those tones as well. You can check out her awesome blog here.

natashadenonavisual

I love everything about this @natashadenona image. The model’s eyebrows, eyeshadow, lashes, freckles, glowy skin, and also how the color of the eyeshadow matches the flower. I wish I had an eyeshadow in that deep lilac color, although I’m not sure it would jive with my skintone. I realize this image has been airbrushed & manipulated within an inch of its life to look like utter perfection. But that’s advertising for you. I like gazing at it nevertheless!

lilahbig

I love the composition of this image; it’s simple and a bit stark, with the little compacts and the shadows they throw. There’s really nowhere to look except right at the product, and I think that’s a very smart design strategy. I really want to try something from clean beauty brand @lilahbeauty especially now that they’re available in Sephora. These Divine Duo’s seem very similar to the lip2cheeks from RMS Beauty that I love. I’m a big fan of any creamy color cosmetic, so perhaps when it’s time to say goodbye to my RMS product, I’ll give this one a go.

urbanoutfittersshowfloor

I love a little @urbanoutfitters moment, even though truth be told I rarely buy anything from there these days. I feel like I had a real love affair with their clothes back when I was in college, although I already knew then everything was really overpriced. However, I do like just browsing through their stores when I have the chance since they’re so aesthetically pleasing to me. The last time I went in I came out with a few beauty products from Ohii, their new in-house beauty brand. I love the pops of yellow & red amongst all the neutral, earthy tones in this image. A great encapsulation of UO’s style in one image.

fridayfayeig

I love e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g that UK blogger Faye from @fridayfaye posts on her Instagram feed. If you don’t already follow her, you’re missing out on some of the dreamiest imagery. It’s hyper-feminine for sure, but I love that. This ticks all the boxes for me. I’m a sucker for anything pink, beige & gold. Like every other blogger on IG, I love a good flatlay. And there’s a good balance of items & textures so your eye doesn’t fixate on one thing for too long. Her blog is equally as beautiful and you can check it out here.

janecosmeticsvisual

Now onto some of the Christmas stuff! I picked this amazing image from @janecosmetics cause…it’s amazing! Look at that level of detail on the eyelids! Like…how?? I know it’s been a trend for a while on social media to create little scenes or landscapes on your eyelids, but the amount of skill & steady-hand work that must be needed to execute this well astounds me. You must also need the tiniest brushes as well. Anyways, this made me smile as I scrolled through my feed so I had to include it here.

lasalaxmastree2018

And this is my so-called wildcard! You’re looking at the Christmas tree that now currently stands in front of the big bay window in my family’s living room. We usually put up our artificial tree right after Thanksgiving and will keep it up until New Year’s Day to get the most out of the holiday season. This year my mom bought some deco mesh from Amazon for the first time to drape around the tree, and now it looks like a big present! The decorations on our tree are usually OTT; we like lots of lights & baubles so every inch is covered. This is from my mom’s Instagram account, which I’ll link here. Go show her some love if you fancy 😊.

What images have inspired you recently, on Instagram or elsewhere? I’d love to know!

Instagram images that inspired me this week, Vol. 3

Hi friends!

It’s time to share another round of cool & inspiring images with you! If you are new to the blog, each month I pluck several images off Instagram that I find beautiful and eye-catching and share with you all why I find these images to be inspirational. Usually they are all beauty-related since that’s my jam over on my blog account @weareglamerus (go follow me, please and thank you!). However, I do like to also throw in some wildcards as well to keep things interesting.

So let’s take a look at what I picked for this month’s installment!

(You can catch up on my previous lists here: September, October.)

igimagesinspirationglowrecipe

So far I don’t have anything from Korean beauty brand Glow Recipe in my skincare aresenal, but I so want to get something! It seemed like every beauty blogger & influencer was singing the praises of their now-famous Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer last year; it didn’t hurt that the packaging design was so well executed, it alone launched a thousand Instagram posts. Everything in their line just looks so dreamy. Case in point with this photo; look at those colors & textures. I have no idea what a “pressed serum” is but after looking at this, I want it! You can shop Glow Recipe here.

igimagesinspirationgeniuss

If you’re into beauty on Instagram, you gotta be into the good ‘ole flat-lay. Everyone wants to see what you’re using and how artfully you can stage all the products. Some are master stagers (I’m still in training myself 😊), and beauty blogger Geniussr certainly knows how to nail them! I love the mixture of textures and prints in this particular photo and how they play off the bright pops of color from the flowers, plus the print of the magazine. I just love how luxe this feels with the golds & blacks and the lush product brands. Check out Geniussr’s blog here!

igimagesinspirationmavie

MavieCosmetics is a new brand that will be launching tomorrow 11/6 in the U.S. with shadow palettes, blushes & lipsticks. (Stay tuned for my next post for more information!) From what I can tell so far with this brand, all the products have very inspirational, aspirational or confidence-boosting names like “Let Your Light Shine” and “I Can and I Will.” So all the Instagram promotion leading up to the launch also has very motivational messaging like in the above photo. This one in particular caught my eye. While I don’t necessarily believe the message to be a categorical truth, I do believe that in most cases we are our own worst enemies who stand in our own way. Cosmetics just got deep…oh dear!

igimagesinspirationmissoma

I just love Missoma’s style. I’ve been a fan of the brand ever since I got two pieces from their Lucy Williams collection for Christmas last year, which are beautiful and extremely good quality. If you’re not familiar with Missoma, take a quick peruse of their site or their Instagram page. They do really gorgeous-looking pieces that are dainty yet very elegant. I’ve had my eye on the Roman coin-style necklaces for a while now, so that may be this year’s Christmas gift request 😊. Honestly I could pick any of their Instagram photos to feature here, but I particularly liked this one because of the crystal texture in the background and the cool patterns on the trinket tray.

igimagesinspirationdakotascarl

Isn’t this just the coolest?? If you love beauty & illustration then you must follow Dakota Scarlett’s Instagram account. She’s an awesome artist that has combined her gift for illustration and her love of beauty & fashion magazines into these amazing works of art. Again, I could have picked any of her IG images to feature here but this was the most recent one and I love all the tones of pink here. Talk about eye catching! I encourage you to also check out Dakota’s website.

igimagesinspirationohiibeauty

I first wrote about Ohii Beauty, the new makeup line from Urban Outfitters, in a brand overview-type post when it first launched back in September. (P.S. I bought a few items from the line since then so another post will be coming soon!) I think you probably know by now that I love a bit of texture, so I couldn’t pass this image by without a click. I love the color contrast, and how the product swatches look so bright and light against the greyish-blue background. You can shop Ohii here.

igimagesinspirationbeautifulju

We’re back in flat-lay land! Sorry, I can’t help myself! London blogger Mavey, who runs the @onebeautifuljunkie Instagram account, is another must-follow if you love looking at a beautifully edited, beautifully designed flay-lay. I love, love, love the slightly vintage feel of this photo thanks to its off-white, slightly fuzzy focus. And the pale, cool colors of the products playing against the gold jewelry creates such a gorgeous palette to gaze at.

igimagesinspirationfourthray

Don’t we all?? While Fourth Ray Beauty is talking about skincare here, this statement could apply to so many aspects of life so that’s why I was drawn to it. That and the color palette, again, is so lovely to gaze at. If you’re not familiar with Fourth Ray Beauty, they are ColourPop’s new sister brand under Seed Beauty specializing in affordable and attractively-packaged skincare products. You can shop the brand here (I haven’t tried anything yet myself).

igimagesinspirationlabs

And now for my wildcard! If this photo doesn’t stir some kind of emotion in you, I don’t know what would. C’mon, who doesn’t love cute puppies?? I follow a lot of dog & pet accounts on my personal Instagram (@erica10803 if you wanna follow me over there too!), like #labsofinstagram, so I’m constantly seeing these adorable photos of puppies & dogs in cute and funny situations. I have a real thing for Labs especially; I’ve always had one since I was about 10 years-old and I think they are some of the most beautiful animals.

What images have inspired you recently, on Instagram or elsewhere? I’d love to know!
