Hi friends!
Are you familiar with celebrity MUA Jillian Dempsey? In addition to her editorial and red carpet work, she also has her own line of makeup, beauty tools & hair products. (She also happens to be the wife of actor Patrick Dempsey.) Well, I attended a Zoom masterclass with her last month that got me really inspired, and I finally decided to pick up one of her Lid Tints. I’ve been curious to try these ever since they came out a few years ago. Before buying a product like this, you definitely need to understand that it’s a not traditional cream shadow; it’s more of an eye gloss with a hint of color and lots of texture. I chose the shade Peach, which I’ve been playing with a lot the last few weeks. So let’s get into the review!

Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint in the shade Peach
MY THOUGHTS ON PACKAGING
The Lid Tint is sold as a single shadow only. It’s packaged in a very lightweight plastic component that has both a mirror, and a very pleasing snap when you close it. It’s also quite slim, so this was definitely made with easy storage and portability in mind. Even if you wanted to collect all 10 shades, they probably wouldn’t take up too much space in your vanity. I like how easy and user-friendly the packaging is.

MY THOUGHTS ON APPLICATION
So, I went back and forth on this. To be honest, the first few times I felt this product and applied it on my eyes, I just didn’t like it. I found the texture very hard to work with (very stiff and sticky), plus I was disappointed in the color payoff (nearly non-existent). However, I think this is a case where the more you use the product, and warm it up with your fingers, the better it performs. For this reason, I think you definitely need to get handsy and use your fingers when applying the Lid Tint. Here’s how I do it.
I rub my (clean) index finger into the pot and really use a decent amount of pressure to pick up the product. I then tap it gently across my whole lid and onto the brow bone. With the shade Peach, I find I really have to layer it to see any of the pigment, but it does build well upon itself. You will feel the product on your eyes for a few minutes after you apply it; it will feel sticky, but that sensation does wear off so don’t be too discouraged.
This is most definitely a texture that you will have to get used to, and be willing to work with if you want to get any use out of the product.

MY THOUGHTS ON SHADE / PIGMENTATION
This is simply not the kind of product that you swipe on and get full pigmentation from; it’s called a Lid Tint after all! But I knew that going into it so I wasn’t totally gutted when I didn’t achieve amazingly bold color. I do really like the muted tone of the peach here, and how effortless and “no-makeup-makeup” it looks. But it does take a certain amount of effort to get there, and you really have to build up this shade to see any of it. Granted, that might not be the case with some of the deeper shades in this line but I wouldn’t know for sure.

MY THOUGHTS ON FINISH
After I’ve done all the applying, I’m left with a softly-dewy, slightly-iridescent finish which is so lovely. Everything looks smoothed out and almost soft-focus, if that makes sense. If you don’t like a finish like that – or you’re super into mattes – you will definitely not like this. But I love a bit of something editorial in my makeup every now and then, so this is right up my alley. The only strike I’ll make here is I cannot find a way to use this as a highlighter. I’ve tried tapping a bit on my cheekbones for a little glisten but the effect is basically non-existent.

MY THOUGHTS ON WEAR
The Lid Tints are certainly not meant for nor claim to be long-wear, so if that is what you’re after – or if you have oily eyelids – this is not the product for you. Just like with any eye gloss, the tint will crease after a short amount of time; there’s no way around it. Again, I understood that before buying this product so the creasing and movement doesn’t really bother me. That being said, I don’t find the creasing to be that intense on me, but please keep in mind that I do not have oily eyelids.
RATING: 5 / 5 ⭐️
MY THOUGHTS ON PRICE
The Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint retails for $28.00 for 3 grams of product. Ehhh, that’s not horrible, but it seems pricey for a product that takes a decent amount of effort to work with. Plus the effect isn’t that incredibly unique. I do understand that indie brands working in small batches often have to price their products more steeply to make a profit. But in theory you could use a little lip gloss, tap it onto your eyelids, brow bone or other high points, and you’d get a similar effect.

FINAL THOUGHTS
This product is for a very specific person – someone who wants a glossy or sheeny eye look and is not bothered by their makeup moving around. I think if you’re concerned with looking immaculate all day long, or if you have oily skin that gets shiny naturally, you will not like this. If you do like glossy eyes, just know that the texture of the Lid Tint really takes some getting used to as it’s quite stiff and sticky. But the more you work with it, the better you’ll get at using it. I don’t regret buying it, and I will definitely continue to use it. But it’s just not a product that I’ll reach for a lot.
Would you try the Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint? I’d love to know!
