Hi friends!
Let’s talk about super glossy skin and how to achieve it, shall we? It’s been all about the skin prep for me lately. Don’t get me wrong, I still adore my illuminating primers and moisturizers like the MAC Strobe Cream, the L’Oreal Lumi Glotion, the NARS Tinted Glow Booster, or The Sexiest Beauty Rose Glow Face Balm; they’re very effective, and they really shine through under makeup. But as we’re heading into Fall, I’ve been experimenting more with skincare (versus skincare-makeup hybrids) to not only give me that high-shine beam under makeup, but also deliver on all-day hydration. I think I’ve found a great concoction of products that delivers on exactly what I want; perfect for the changing seasons!
I’ll guide you through the very quick steps I take to achieve super glossy skin using just skincare – no shimmer or sparkle in sight.
Now, keep in mind, this may not be for everyone. Not everyone wants to look super shiny throughout the day, and that’s totally understandable. The products you reach for or the finish you’re after (i.e. matte, semi-matte, dewy, glossy, etc) will completely depend on your skin type and personal preference. But since I have quite dry and sometimes dehydrated skin, I definitely prefer to switch to those more luxurious, nourishing textures in the Fall to make my dull skin appear healthier.

This illuminating moisturizer is keeping my skin lush this summer!
STEP ONE – APPLY SERUM
I briefly mentioned this product in last week’s post on my favorite-of-the-moment beauty bits, but the first thing I do is apply a generous dime-sized amount of the Serumkind Black Blossom Drop Serum all over my face and neck. It has a very interesting texture; it’s quite liquid but it feels almost creamy when you’re applying it. It sinks into the skin pretty instantly, but it leaves a beautifully hydrated and dewy finish behind. My skin feels nourished all day after I apply this.
STEP TWO – APPLY FACE OIL
I think this is the key! I then apply two drops of the gorgeous Peach & Lily Pure Beam Luxe Oil onto the high points of my face – cheeks, nose, forehead, chin – really pressing it into my skin. They don’t call it Pure Beam for nothing! It really shines, but it’s not greasy in the slightest. In the review I wrote on this product, I likened it to a dry oil and that’s what it really feels like to me; super lightweight, but still very nourishing. (I also stated in the same review that I wasn’t sure this oil was worth the price. Yea, um, I take that back. I would likely repurchase this again, I love it even more now!)
STEP THREE – APPLY A LIGHT COVERAGE FOUNDATION OR TINTED MOISTURIZER
Told you it was quick! Depending on the day, I may apply any number of bases over top, but I usually go for something with either sheer or light coverage. This way the effects of the skincare really show through. The Iris & Romeo Best Skin Days works beautiful in this case as it has a slightly thicker, almost whipped consistency that meshes well with these hydrating products. It also has some glow of its own, so you really can get a beaming effect. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint also works nicely here for the opposite reason. It doesn’t have any natural glow so the skincare underneath really helps to boost it, and make it appear more lively.
If the shine gets to be a little too much, I will do some targeted powdering just in key areas (i.e. the tip of the nose, around the nose, center of the forehead). This helps pull the effect back in places where it may start to look sweaty or oily. You may definitely need to do this if you have combo or oily skin to start with.
Check out the short clip below that I filmed on my iPhone showing the texture/finish of these two skincare products. (‘Scuse the quality, but hopefully you still get the idea!)

What products or methods do you use to achieve super glossy skin? I’d love to know!

The effect on your hand is glorious! It would be too much for my skin but luckily I get natural glossy skin on my own ahaha
Ha! I definitely don’t, so I need lots of help in that department 😉.
MAC’s Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Double Gleam gives such a glowy effect to my skin, a very natural and lit from within glow 🙂 your skin looks beautiful with this combo, glad it’s working well for you!
Thanks so much Chanelle! That MAC powder sounds glorious; I’ve never tried any of the Extra Dimension Skinfinishes but I know they get a lot of rave reviews!
The formula is lovely, almost like a cream to powder finish so they look lovely and soft on the skin.
The serum and oil combined is so pretty!! I really want to try that serum. It sounds amazing!
Oh my gosh, I love it! Wasn’t expecting to fall so hard in love, but I have ❤️.
