Hi friends!
We’re back with the third installment in October’s content theme – vegan & cruelty-free reviews! Today I’m talking about another new brand to me, The Organic Skin Co. They are a New Zealand-based natural beauty brand with a full line of entirely vegan & cruelty-free beauty products. (If you’re interested in reading about their certifications, click here.) You can buy their products in individual pots, but they really encourage you to create your own 4-pan or 8-pan palette to save on waste.
DISCLAIMER: I met and chatted with the brand owner’s daughter at this year’s Indie Beauty Expo, and they very kindly gave me the opportunity to create my own 4-pan palette at no cost. I’m under no obligation to write this review, nor is this sponsored in any way by the brand.
I tried creating a well-balanced group of products here. They’re all creams (big surprise), and I included: one concealer, one highlighter, one eyeshadow and one blush. So this will be different than my normal reviews in that you’re getting a 4-in-1 kinda deal. Now let’s get into my Organic Skin Co custom palette review!
MY THOUGHTS ON PACKAGING
Their custom palettes have very sleek, lightweight wooden packaging. Each product pan is magnetized and fits perfectly into its slot. The closure is also magnetized so it’s very secure and sturdy. There’s also a nice mirror in there if you want to take your palette on the go. Nothing to complain about here as far as I’m concerned.

HIDE AND SEEK CREAM CONCEALER
This is a CWB. A ‘Concealer With Benefits’. Because even as it goes about its concealer business, helping to minimize the appearance of pores and irritations, it also gives your skin a helping hand – hydrating, moisturizing, conditioning – so that your skin can look its very best. So good, in fact, that the concealer may very well do itself out of a job!

This is one of my favorite parts of this palette, hands-down. Creamy yet still slightly stiff, it clings to the skin very nicely so you can achieve amazing coverage. I’d say this sits somewhere between medium-to-full coverage. I both apply and blend it in with my fingers with no issue. On my dry skin it creases very little, even after a full day’s wear; no sitting in my fine lines either. Just a really great product. My only gripe is the limited shade range. I wear Porcelain, the lightest shade, which brightens quite nicely for me.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT LUMINIZER
No doubt you’ve seen the light when it comes to natural makeup. Now, let others see the light on you, thanks to this stunning luminizer. Offering satin-shimmer highlights of sheer, buildable color, it can be use over or under makeup to touch-up, highlight, brighten or prime. Simply decide which of your features you want to showcase, then ‘bring it’ to the world.

This is my other favorite part of this palette! I soooo love this highlighter, but I do love me a good cream highlighter. This gives a beautiful pearly sheen to the skin with no glitter or sparkle in sight. It’s quite creamy to the touch so application is easy, but then it sets down for a long-lasting finish. I like to use it across my cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and even on the eyelids or mixed in with blush. It has amazing versatility! It’s only available in 2 shades; I have Lunar, a pearl white.

THE EYES HAVE IT CREAM EYE SHADOW
All of our makeup is made with one core idea in mind – beauty without compromise. No nasty chemicals, just gorgeous natural colors which not only look great, they’re good for your skin. Enter our cream eye shadows. Highly pigmented, all natural, long lasting, they represent everything that’s good about natural beauty.

I’d say this is probably my least used, least favorite part of this palette. Not because I think the product is “bad” but because I might have chosen the wrong color. I have the shade Misty, which is a matte grey. It initially gave me Maybelline Color Tattoo Tough as Taupe vibes, but sadly it applies a lot lighter on the eyes than in a finger swatch. The texture here is quite similar to the Hide and Seek Cream Concealer in that it’s creamy yet still slightly stiff. I think it’s best applied with a finger. Just be aware, the longevity isn’t completely amazing with this product. It does crease on me after a few hours of wear.

CHEEKY LIPS
We don’t want to come across as cheeky, but this really is one of the best natural lip and cheek creams you’ll find anywhere! Designed to provide a perfect natural flush and the pout to match, Cheeky Lips not only comes in some bangin’, long-lasting colors, it will help to replenish the cheeks and lips, keeping them smooth and nourished.

This is a very emollient cheek and lip product that’s easy to apply and provides great pigment. I chose the shade Velvet, which is a deep, yet still punchy berry tone. Full disclosure: I have not tried this on my lips, I’ve only used it as a blush. The finish is quite natural on the skin, with very little to no tackiness after it sets. The longevity is quite good as well; after a full day’s wear I still have rosy color on my cheeks. This gets a solid ‘like’ from me; I’m not completely in love with it, but it’s a good cream blush.

FINAL THOUGHTS
For the most part I’m very happy with the palette I put together! My favorite products are the highlighter and concealer for sure. But all of the creams are fairly easy to use and feel nice on the skin. The quality is definitely there.
As far as prices go I’d say they’re definitely mid-market, sitting somewhere between affordable and luxury. To give you a frame of reference, RMS Beauty, a more luxury natural beauty brand, retails their “Un” Cover Up Concealer for $36.00 for 0.20 oz of product. Hide and Seek retails (individually) for $29.00 for 0.17 oz of product.
Have you tried anything from The Organic Skin Co. before? I’d love to know!

It’s so much fun making custom palettes 🙂
I know! It’s much more special, isn’t it?
It’s awesome that you were able to create your own palate! And to be able to get 4 items in one is such a great deal. 🙂
Agreed! I haven’t created my own palette very many times but it definitely makes a product feel more special 😊.
very nice palette and the look on you is very pretty!
Thank you so much!
That is so cool that you met the brand owner’s daughter! I wish we was beauty expo’s here maybe the blogger scene isnt as big where I live 😕 but finding new indie brands even on IG is always fun. I wish I could support them all.
Anyway, I initially thought they were all eyeshadows from the cover picture but whoa! It’s like a 4 in 1 kind of palette super cool!
The highlight is superrrrrr pretty!!!!
Exactly! It’s probably the most multi-functional palette I own now. The highlight is right up my alley – glossy and glowy but not glittery or shimmery at all. (Don’t get me wrong, I like a bit of shimmer too sometimes!) I love discovering new brands too!
I dont believe I own an multi functional palettes. Would be a nice thing to have for travel.
Absolutely!
How lucky that you were able to create this palette for free & choose all the textures & shades. I love that the packaging is wooden but, still magnetic & sturdy with a nice mirror! The concealer & highlighter sound wonderful! It was such a good idea to choose one of each product instead of all eyeshadows or all blushes.
I tried to make it as balanced as possible! But the concealer & highlighter are the clear winners of this bunch as I reach for them constantly now.
