Hi friends!
April’s Brand Spotlight is on MAC Cosmetics, one of the first makeup brands I ever used and loved. Today I’m talking about my most favorite eyeshadow of all time from the brand – Sumptuous Olive! I forget when I first discovered this product, but it’s been years. Lemme tell you, I have a lot of eyeshadows in my collection; too many for one person to be very honest. But I always, always go back to this shade so for me to say that, it’s gotta mean something! So this post is my love note to this gorgeous little lady.
FYI – I have this shade as a single, but it appears this is now only sold as a Pro Palette Refill Pan on MAC’s website. However, it looks like Nordstrom still sells it as a single shadow – yay!
To catch up on all the other posts in this feature, I’ve included quick links below:

THE COLOR
If you’re a fan of very wearable olive green shades on your eyes then Sumptuous Olive is for you! Actually I would say this is a light ashy gold shade that pulls olive, if that makes sense. Pressed in the pan, it looks a lot more green than it does when applied to the eye. Application photos are coming up later in this post so can see what I mean. It’s just the most beautiful, softly-defining cool-toned olivey-gold shade I know of (wow that was a lot of hyphens!).
THE APPLICATION
I love to apply this as a light wash all over my eyes with a big fluffy brush, like my beloved MAC 217 for instance. There is very little fall-out from this shade, as can often be the case with other shimmery, pearly or metallic shadows. What I mean by that is when you dip your brush in to pick up the color, it doesn’t kick up a lot of product. Nor does it deposit too much onto your cheeks during eye application.
And the best news? Sumptuous Olive blends like absolute butter across the eyes. No tugging, no pulling, no skipping. Just easy, easy application and great color payoff. Swoon!
THE FINISH
This is one of MAC’s Veluxe Pearl shades if you know your MAC finishes. (Actually I found a handy-dandy blog post explaining all of MAC’s finishes, which you can read here if you’re interested.) It has a pearly, subtly metallic effect on the eye. It’s just gorgeous, and again this contributes to the overall wearability of this shade. Nothing is too loud or in-your-face here.
THE WEAR
I’ve never ever noticed much or any fading or creasing while wearing this shadow throughout the day. I will remind you here that 1) I have predominantly dry skin, and 2) I always put a primer on eyelids before applying powder shadows. So depending on your skin type, and how you prep your eye, the wear may be different on you.
What is your favorite MAC eyeshadow? I’d love to know!

I LOVE that olive-y shade of green! Its just so unexpected and beautiful!
Me too! ❤️
That’s a pretty color! It almost looks like a gold. It looks great with your dark colored eyes, but since I have hazel eyes I’m sure it wouldn’t look too great on me. 😀
It’s actually more gold than green when you apply it!
It really does look more gold than green. I was kind of expecting more of a taupe color. It looks nice 🙂
It’s a stunner in person (in my opinion)!
An interesting post and my wife loves the color!
Oh, thank you!
Love this color….a favorite of mine too !
It’s so beautiful. I hope they never discontinue it!
More great color! Thank you!
It’s such a beautiful one, isn’t it? Thanks for reading Diane!
Love this shade, it looks great on you! I’ve actually never tried a MAC eyeshadow before!
Like with any other brand, they definitely have their hits and misses. But overall they are very good quality! You can just start out with singles first to sample the formula, which I think is great!
I am hoping they become completely cruelty-free so I can try it 🙂
