Hi friends!
OK, OK you’re probably judging me from the title…and that’s fine, I would probably judge me too. I usually stay very much in the drugstore lane when it comes to mascaras; I just don’t think you have to spend much to get great lash formulas these days. That being said, back in November my mom very kindly gifted me an extremely luxurious Chantecaille mascara: the Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara, which retails for a whopping $72.00 (yes, it’s true).
You’re probably spitting out your coffee or tea at the computer now. I get it. But this mascara formula has bold claims of helping your natural lashes grow thicker and longer over time. Does that still warrant the ridiculous price tag? Well I’m here to give you the low-down so you never go wasting your cash. You’re welcome 😉.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The newest lash peptide technology has now been added to the original, sought-after Faux Cils formula. The powerful lash peptide helps enhance the appearance of natural lash length, thickness and fullness. The formula features the non-clumping, double helix brush to comb and feather lashes for defined volume.

A NOTE ON USE
I started using this mascara right after Thanksgiving and have been doing so consistently for two months now. During the first month, I used this every single day without fail (on my top lashes only). After that I alternated it with one another mascara (i.e. I used it every other day).
MY THOUGHTS ON PACKAGING
There’s nothing particularly interesting or even luxurious about the packaging of this product; it’s just your typical mascara. I was fully expecting the component to be a bit weightier for the price. Actually, I’ve noticed just recently that some of the writing on the package has started to wear off, much like what happens with drugstore packaging. Hmm.

MY THOUGHTS ON APPLICATION AND WAND

This builds up drama right away on your lashes. There’s no waiting around or having to apply 2 – 3 coats before you start seeing the effects. I really appreciate that; that’s the kind of mascara formula I love, personally. The wand design is also something I generally prefer. I tend to gravitate towards old-school bristle brushes over plastic combs, most of the time. I think they build up the drama the quickest and the most effectively.

MY THOUGHTS ON VOLUME AND THICKNESS
(I feel I kinda failed with the photos in this post! It’s so hard to capture your lashes clearly, so please forgive the blurriness and inconsistency. I did my best!)
So you have two photos in front of you now, showing different stages of use: 2 weeks after starting use & 2 months after starting use. I have no mascara on in either photo. Do my lashes look volumized & luscious while wearing this mascara formula? Hell yes. Has this formula helped grow my natural lashes to appear more thick and volumized? I really don’t know, to be honest. If it has, it’s miminal. Very disappointing.

MY THOUGHTS ON LENGTH
I actually really love the length I can achieve when using this mascara formula. But has “the newest lash peptide technology” made my natural lashes appear longer? Again, I have to say…I don’t know! It’s crazy, I realize. I’ve been waiting for the past 2 months for some change to occur, but I just haven’t noticed anything groundbreaking yet. And if it hasn’t worked by now, it ain’t going to.

MY THOUGHTS ON LONGEVITY
I have no problem with this product’s longevity. It doesn’t smudge or flake on me at all throughout the day. For reference, I generally wear my makeup for about 8 – 11 hours a day.

MY THOUGHTS ON PRICE
Um, do we even need to go there? I’m sure you can tell by how this review is going that I, in no way, think this mascara is worth $72. C’mon Chantecaille. There’s luxury, and then there’s ridiculous.

FINAL THOUGHTS
It’s a shame that I can’t recommend this product because I actually think the formula is quite beautiful. I love the effect it gives my lashes, and I will continue to use it until its dying breath (if anything, to get my mom’s money’s worth!). But making big claims and slapping a huge price tag on a product that you can essentially find in the drugstore, is just not the way to get me to repurchase. Go to Maybelline, L’Oreal, Kokie, Flower Beauty or even Stila or Too Faced for the same effect for much less.

(A side note: my mom ended up hating this mascara and tossed it out. She’s convinced it actually removed some of her lashes! So take that for what it’s worth!)

Did you see they are going to stop air brushing photo’s? It’s about time!
Yes, I am actually planning on writing about it next week!
I look forward to what you have say!
Thanks Diane!
WAY too pricey for a mascara that doesn’t do as promised !!!!
Agreed!
I think your lashes really look good in the pictures. I mostly buy expensive make up so for me it’s really not that pricy and buying makeup is the only time I am willing to spend some extra cash. Applicator does make a difference. I like how you stated that you were waiting for some groundbreaking results. Well, your lashes are looking longer Erica. A great review as usual.
Wow, you think so?? For some reason I’m having a harder time telling the difference. I think it’s definitely possible the formula lengthened them a bit, but I guess I just expected more. It’s hard to justify such a high price. Thanks for reading, as always!
Wow! That price is crazy! It would be different if it actually did what it claimed. My last beauty fail was e.l.f mascara. It clumped on my lashes but I was in a hurry and didn’t have time to fix it. It seriously made my eyes water all day! So not only were my lashes clumpy but my eyes were red and watering!! Ugh!
That sounds awful!! I’ve only had a few allergic reactions to makeup throughout the years. I got red, watery eyes from a Coastal Scents Palette once & the worst was a reactionI had to the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask – my lips tripled in size and burned and peeled. Horrible beyond words!
Oh gosh, I agree that the packaging could have been done much better for that price! I also prefer traditional bristles over a comb for my mascaras. That’s great that is truly does it’s job when it applied… but, maybe the “help the your lashes grow” part was a little too big of a claim for them. How scary that your Ma felt it was removing her lashes!!
If this mascara was like $30 – $40 cheaper, I would definitely repurchase it. I love the way it makes my lashes look, but definitely not for $70!! Yea, she told me she was convinced it had the reverse effect on her, and made some of her lashes fall out…how crazy! 😳
Yeah seriously, $70 is totally ridiculous. I hope your mom’s eyelashes are okay now!
Oh, she’ll be fine 👍🏻
I loved your title. Lol
Mascara for $70 *did* make me visibly wince. Especially since you could buy 10 equally good ones at the grocery store!
Good to know that the most expensive may not be the best 🙂
Haha yea, it’s a shame this is so insanely overpriced cause the formula is quite beautiful. If it was like, $30 – $40 cheaper, I might entertain the idea of repurchasing it. But honestly I love my drugstore mascaras so much, that it might never be worth it! 😆
