Hi friends!
On the whole, I’m not much of a traditional foundation girl. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good buildable base. But for the most part I grab a tinted moisturizer with SPF and call it a day, especially during the summer months. The cocktail of products that I’m currently fixated on gives me tons of hydration, a natural sheeny-glow and a layer of light coverage everywhere.
(P.S. I still always use a fuller-coverage concealer in places where I need it, like my under-eyes, around my nose and my chin).
I’ve loved all three of these products separately but now that I’ve combined them together they’re even better! I use a combo of the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, the L’Oréal Lumi Glotion, and the Weleda Skin Food Light Nourishing Cream. I’ve written about all these products before in detail in separate posts, which of course I’ll link for you below.
Now I’ll take you through the steps of my base routine (it’s easy, there’s just two!), and what I do to achieve my perfect glowy base!
STEP ONE – HYDRATION AND SHINE!
The Weleda Skin Food Light Nourishing Cream is a lighter version of the original Weleda Skin Food, but it still packs a big punch in terms of moisture. Put this all over your face before makeup and your skin will still feel hydrated hours later. Just don’t overdo it! A little goes a long way with this moisturizer.

The L’Oreal Lumi Glotion is a similar-ish product to the highly coveted Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, but at a drugstore price point. A hybrid primer-glow product, I primarily use it to give my skin a natural-looking sheen, not for hydration purposes (it is somewhat moisturizing but enough for me personally).

So normally I like to take equal parts of the Weleda & the L’Oreal (as pictured above), mix them together on the back of my hand, and apply all over my face like I would with a regular moisturizer. Sometimes, depending on how my skin feels that particular day, I’ll change up the mixing a bit and do, perhaps, one part L’Oreal to 1.5 parts Weleda. It all depends, and it can be totally customized depending on your needs and preferences.
The below image shows what the mixture looks like on its own all rubbed into my hand, for reference. Look at that glow!
STEP TWO – ADD SOME COVERAGE!
I originally picked up the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue last year after hearing such amazing reviews over the years. I always liked it since I bought it, as I’m such a fan of tinted moisturizers. But I have to say my trip to Austin this past April really made me appreciate it even more! I don’t know what it was, but it made my skin look so incredibly fresh throughout the whole trip and even dewier than normal. Maybe it was the hotel lighting, maybe it was the temperature outside, I don’t know but I was loving it!
Now you really don’t absolutely need a moisturizer underneath this; the Complexion Rescue is very creamy and easy to blend in on its own. But I feel I always need an extra boost of hydration so that’s why I layer the Weleda and L’Oreal underneath.
As you would expect with a tinted moisturizer, the coverage here is sheer to light depending on how much you apply and how you apply it. And you’re getting an SPF of 30 when you apply this product, which is awesome especially during the summertime.
For more info on this product, check out my full review here. FYI – it appears Bare Minerals may have increased the price of the Complexion Rescue since last year, which is a bit odd. In my 2018 review I said it was $30.00 for 35 mL, but now it says $32.00 for 35 mL online. Kinda disappointing, although it’s still a great product.
So after I lay the hydrating/glowy base down on my skin, I squeeze out a blob of the Complexion Rescue on the back of my hand that’s a little larger than a pea approximately (sometimes I vary this as well). Then I just dot it around my face to get an even distribution of color/coverage, and just gently rub it in like I would a moisturizer. You can try using brushes or a sponge here, but I feel they soak up whatever little coverage this product has. So I prefer to use the warmth of my fingers to blend it out.
The result is a very lightweight but seriously hydrated and glowy base. Plus the added bonus of sun protection! The effect is really hard to capture on camera, especially if you take photos in natural light like I do. However, I do think these photos show the most accurate representation of what it actually looks like IRL.
OPTIONAL STEP – ADD MORE GLOW!
I don’t always do this last step, to be honest. It just really depends on if I can be bothered or if I even remember. But sometimes I’ll take a small amount of the Lumi Glotion between my fingers at the end, and just gently tap it along my cheekbones for an extra bit of highlight. You can see this showcased in the photo directly above. It has a lovely wet-looking sheen to it when you use it on its own in this way.
I hope you all enjoyed learning about my go-to glowy base using an tinted moisturizer with SPF! Let me know your go-to summer base in the comments below!

I really want to try the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, but I don’t want to pay that price. I wonder if I can grab a free sample? 🤔 I’ve heard great things about that stuff!
You probably can. Go to Sephora and ask one of the salespeople. They’re usually happy to oblige. It is really good stuff!
Oh I didn’t even think of that! Thanks!!
😉
Love this look! So naturally pretty and I love the glow!
Thank you so much! I don’t like anything too complicated (i.e. I’m lazy) so natural-looking makeup is just so much easier 😉
That has a nice finish….not too glowy but just enough to look fresh 🙂
Exactly! My favorite – I don’t want to look “sweaty,” I want to look “glowy.” Biggg difference!
Your skin looks absolutely radiant ! Great tips, thanks!
Thank you! I love a nice subtle glow!
I haven’t tried mixing products before but it seems like such a good idea. That Lumi Glotion stuff is shiny, wow, I love it!!
I loveee the Glotion! Such an amazing product if you just literally want a “glow” and not a shimmer, ya know.
