Hi friends!
You may remember that last month I recommended some of my fave drugstore hand creams that do a great job at keeping dry, dehydrated and flakey skin at bay. And best of all, they are (for the most part) extremely affordable for the amount of product. Ever wondered if more expensive creams do that much more for your skin? Well I certainly have. Cue the new Glossier hand cream, which debuted on the market just a few weeks ago after the brand donated their first 10,000 tubes to healthcare and frontline workers.
I was lucky enough to be gifted this product soon after the launch, and I’ve been diligently using it since my hands are in need of some TLC. Let’s talk now about the price/product deets, some pro’s and con’s, and whether I recommend you snatch or skip it during your next online shopping trip.
THE DEETS ON THE NEW GLOSSIER HAND CREAM
- 50 mL / 1.7 oz. for $18.00
What it is: Supercharged moisture in a palm-sized pod with sleek curves and 360º squeeze.
Why it’s special:
- Fast-absorbing, nutrient-rich moisturizers (like Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Coconut Fruit Extract) nourish without a greasy feel
- Uses a “Second Skin” Matrix to hold moisture in and keep skin-stressors out
- An ergonomic pack designed for on-the-go application, with a click-to-close cap to secure against spills in the bottom of your bag (or anywhere else)
- A Glossier You scent reimagined for the hands—it wears closer, with an emphasis on the fresh, clean notes
Good to know: dermatologist-tested, cruelty-free, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, nut-free, GMO-free, suitable for all skin types
THE PROS
THE PACKAGING / PORTABILITY
Glossier nailed it here without a doubt. The very top is hard plastic that pops up to reveal a red nipple (sorry, I don’t know how else to describe it!) that dispenses the product. The bottom two-thirds has a squeezable rubber texture. It’s all very easy to use and is absolutely perfect for its purpose (i.e. using on-the-go).
THE TEXTURE / THICKNESS
This is another win for me. It’s very thin-textured and sinks into the skin almost on contact, leaving behind absolutely no greasiness or tackiness.
HYDRATION LEVEL
This cream leaves your skin feeling smooth and hydrated for quite a few hours after application.
THE CONS
THE PRICE
On the whole Glossier is at the sweet mid-market level with their prices, between drugstore and more luxury items. Eighteen dollars doesn’t seem particularly expensive but you’re only getting 50 mL / 1.7 oz. of product here. Compare that quickly to the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion – you get 7 times the amount of product for less than half the price of the new Glossier hand cream. That’s quite the difference! (And I should clarify, the Aveeno is just as hydrating too.)
IT’S NOT REFILLABLE
However much I like the sleek packaging, I’m disappointed that it’s not refillable. Especially considering you get such little product! I know I’m going to be sad to part with this tube when it’s empty, but why would I keep it around if I can’t use it? You see the dilemma. It also just seems like such a waste of plastic, cool design, etc, etc.
SNATCH OR SKIP??
SKIP! While I do think the new Glossier hand cream is lovey and hydrating, let’s be honest here all your money is going towards the packaging and the brand name. You can certainly find something just as nourishing and cheaper with just a simple Google search or a walk down the aisles of your local drugstore. There are plenty of other Glossier products you should snatch up quickly (i.e. the Stretch Concealer, or the Cloud Paints). This simply isn’t one of them.
Have you tried the Glossier Hand Cream? What is your favorite hand cream? I’d love to know!
xo, and be well, Erica
PIN IT!
‘The nipple’ I’m totally with you!
I too love the packaging, looks beautiful. And although they did donate such a grand amount, jeez the price they are selling for, they can afford it! I’m shocked! Great blog post! Xxx
Yea I’m a bit disappointed by the ratio of price to product amount here. It’s a lovely cream but absolutely nothing special and nothing revolutionary. In this case, I say just stick to your favorite affordable hand cream!
Thank you for the advice, still… looks pretty damn cute and sleek in your hand bag, would be a maybe if you could refill it 🙂 hope you’re staying safe and keeping well! X
Cuteness level is off the charts for sure! If it was refillable, you could definitely make a stronger case for it!
The packaging is unique that’s for sure! Perhaps Glossier will listen to the feedback and make refills if there is enough demand 🙂
I’m hoping so. I’ve seen a few reviews on their website asking for refillable tubes. I’m honestly just surprised they didn’t initially take that into consideration, but oh well.
I love the packaging! And it sounds lovely. However if I can get a similar lotion for cheaper I think I’d go for that instead. 🙂
The packaging is everything, and the cream isn’t bad either but you can totally get this for cheaper elsewhere. Don’t bother with it!
The red nipple ahahahah *DEAD* but yeah, I wouldn’t splurge on it either
Seriously, how else do you describe that thing??!! Ha!
Hahahahah there isn’t another way 😂😂😂
I had no idea they had released a hand cream, but I think I will pass on this one! There’s not enough product in there for the price, but it’s good to know the formula is good!
Wise choice 😉
omg i was about to say you’ve sold me on this cream because it’s moisturizing and thin but then you said skip! haha i totally agree that it is a waste of plastic if you can’t re-use it. i tend to keep lots of jars / pots that can be re-used for others things. and also, i do agree that you are* paying for the packaging and brand name. looks cute but seems impractical in the long run.
thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙂
It’s a great cream for on-the-go, but for the price, no thanks. You can get creams just as thin and moisturizing for so much cheaper. I love Glossier for the most part, but this is a miss for me.
Thanks for your honesty 🤗🤗
Always 😉❤️
