I was recently in the market for a new concealer as both my Tarte Shape Tape and Maybelline Fit Me had seen better days. I have a “1-in-1-out” policy with my makeup collection: if I add a new item I have to let another go. It’s how I prefer to control my makeup stash. So as it goes, letting go of older products means slots for newer ones open up. I’m always up for trying new base products, so I initially picked up the NARS Creamy Concealer (I’ll probably do a separate review later), which I’d been eyeing forever.
Then I paid a visit to Ulta to see if the Urban Decay Born to Run Palette was in stock (it wasn’t) when I spotted the brand new Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer. A lot of other bloggers, YouTubers & Instagrammers have been buzzing about this, so I was definitely intrigued when I passed the display. I’ve been testing this for a while now through long days and summer heat and I’ve finally come to an opinion. But first, let’s get some background information on what this product is and what it claims to do.

How the product works
Diamond-shaped doe foot allows application in thick lines using the flat surface, as well as thinner lines using the side and tip for precision coverage.
(NOTE: Don’t confuse this with the Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer, which is in a much thinner tube. That product is still on sale and part of their Born This Way range from what I could tell from the website.)
How I use this product
I’ve only used this product as a concealer up until this point, as opposed to the 3 additional ways it’s being marketed (contour, highlight, retouch). I apply a few dots under each eye, around my nose and occasionally on my chin directly from either the tip of the applicator or the flat side. I then tap the product into my skin with the warmth of my fingers.
My thoughts on…
Shade range: There are 20 shades in total in this range across cool, neutral & warm undertones; 5 fair shades, 3 light shades, 3 medium shades, 4 tan shades, & 5 deep shades. While I think that is a fair range in terms of skin tone, I wish they would add a few more with cool undertones. This range definitely leans more heavily towards neutral & warm. I had difficulty finding a fair, cool-toned shade and now looking at their website, I see just one shade that falls into that category (Snow). All the shades I swatched in-store, including Snow funny enough, appeared quite yellow or golden at least to my eye. I eventually settled on Swan, a fair shade with a neutral undertone. While I can definitely make it work, it’s not the most ideal for me.

Packaging: It’s a sleek-looking, frosted plastic bottle that despite its size is actually quite lightweight. But that being said, it’s a huge component for a concealer in my opinion. The diamond-shaped applicator is huge as well. Everything is a bit clunky to be honest, so I’d imagine it would be prove difficult to throw in your bag for on-the-go touch-ups or travel. For perspective, the Too Faced is pictured below next to the NARS Creamy Concealer.
(UPDATE 10/10/19 – over time the packaging of this product has become problematic. It’s the same issue I had with the packaging of Tarte Shape Tape. The excess product from the wand starts oozing down around the sides so when you go to close the product, it squeezes out and you have to keep wiping the outside of the bottle. Very annoying. I’ve updated my packaging rating below, but since the product is still so good, I will not revise my Final Thoughts. )

Application & consistency: I’ve applied it both over naked skin that had been moisturized and over foundation. It blended out very well every time. Like I mentioned before, I just use my fingers to blend and tap, but I imagine it would respond well to a dampened beauty sponge too. I don’t care one way or the other about the diamond-shaped applicator simply because I’m using this product for one purpose: to conceal. Perhaps if you are using it to contour, the applicator would make more of a difference to you. I’m not sure. I would say that the consistency is moderately thick to the touch. In relation to others, I’d say it’s very similar to the consistency of the NARS Creamy Concealer, thinner than Tarte Shape Tape, but much thicker than Maybelline Fit Me.

Longevity & coverage: This provides very long-lasting coverage without much or any cakiness, which is awesome. However, keep in mind I apply concealer as sparingly as I can get away with due to my dry skin type. I almost never apply concealer in broad streaks anywhere on my face, but rather in 3-4 small dots under my eyes. So bearing that in mind, I wore this outside in the summer heat for about 7 hours one day, and subsequently on another day out with friends where I was laughing and making lots of facial expressions. I still had a decent amount of coverage under my eyes at the end of the day without any significant cracking. Very impressive.

Price: As mentioned earlier in this post, you get 0.50 fl. oz. of product for $29.00. That’s a lot if you compare to other concealers. The NARS Creamy Concealer is 0.22 fl. oz. for $30.00, for example; so with Too Faced you’re getting more than double the amount of product for the same price. Now the difference in packaging makes a bit more sense! On the other end of the scale, Makeup Revolution’s Conceal & Define is just 0.14 fl. oz. for $7.00. So Too Faced is pricing this product very fairly in my opinion, and isn’t over-charging for a small or even standard amount of product.

Final Thoughts
Despite some fumbling with shade selection & bulky packaging, I would still highly recommend this product. I think it’s a beautiful concealer that performs very well under everyday conditions. And for the amount of product you’re getting, it’s priced perfectly.
Have you tried this product yet? If so, what are your thoughts? I’d love to know!

I’m always looking for a great concealer 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome!
Great post and I think I need to try this concealer!! The Tarte Shape Tape was too much work for me and I have heard this is just as good as far as concealing. Aren’t all of us women looking for that “perfect” concealer! 🙂
Thank you! This is definitely easier to work with than the Shape Tape.
I have never found a great concealer and this sounds like a good one. Thanks Erica!
This is a great choice if you like something fuller coverage. I turned one of my really good friends onto it last year, and she loves it!
I am looking forward to trying this product. I have tried every other concealer, and have been disappointed every time. I hope this one is hydrating, and conceals well. Thanks for your review.
