Hi friends!
Cream eyeshadows are an everyday staple for me in my makeup routine. I’ll take ’em in any form – pots, pens, etc – but cream eyeshadow sticks have got to be my absolute favorite. They are just so darn easy to use and when you want a quick-quick shadow look, they are your best bet. (And that’s how I like my makeup these days, quick!) Smudge a bit of color on, blend it out with a brush or finger and you’re there.
You know I adore my Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks, but lately I’ve been reaching for the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks just that little bit more often. Why, I’m not so sure to be honest. Both formulas are very, very similar: super creamy and blendable, and they last for a similar amount of time on the eye. (You probably don’t need both in your collection to be fair, unless you’re a shadow stick devotee like me.) I think it has to do with the shades. I’m just LOVING these particular colors in the Laura Mercier formula right now, and when that happens, I have to share the love on here with you all! Let me take you through them now.

COBBLESTONE
I recently picked up this shade from Sephora because I wanted something that would create a natural-looking shadow for underneath the eye. Cobblestone is a cool-toned taupe grey with a matte finish that straddles the line between mid-tone and dark; it’s beautiful, and so, so useful. I like to use it as an eyeliner, an all-over eyeshadow, or to deepen up the outside corners of the eye for a slightly more smokey look. If I’m not using it daily, I’m using it nearly every other day. If you’re familiar with the Maybelline Color Strike Cream-to-Powder Pen in the shade Flare, it’s very similar to that tone but just matte in finish.
If you’re looking for your next grey or cool cream shadow, I’d wholeheartedly recommend this one. It blends like a dream and provides true, punchy color. I would caution about the longevity though. If you want the most bulletproof wear, I’d apply a primer under this to be safe, especially if you have oily eyelids. I notice some creasing – not horrible, just slight – by the end of the day without a primer. Personally I don’t mind a little creasing, but just be aware that the 12-hour claim here may not be 100% accurate.

AU NATUREL
This is Au Naturel’s second appearance on the blog. I first spoke about it back in early 2020 in this post about my favorite no-eyeshadow eyeshadows, and pretty much everything I said back then stands now. However, I will revise my thoughts on the formula now: I don’t think it sets too quickly. You have plenty of time to get in there with a brush or finger and blend away for a seamless finish. Perhaps the formula changed over time? Who knows. But regardless, Au Naturel is just beautiful and has returned to heavy rotation in my routine as of late. (I recently purchased a mini version from Ulta after I decluttered my older full size version last year. This shade is available in both sizes.)
On my pale skin tone, this shade shows up as a muted pinky-beige with the softest satin finish. If you have deeper skin this will probably show up a bit brighter on you, and provide more contrast. But on me it’s a great no-eyeshadow eyeshadow for the days when I want a natural yet polished-looking lid. I love either wearing this on its own, or pairing it with a soft shimmer like the Moonplay Cosmetics Hyper Flash Powder in Vow for a pop of light in the middle of the eye. So soft and gorgeous!
Have you tried the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks? If so, what are your favorite shades? I’d love to know!
xo, and be well, Erica
