Cannabis for your brows?? NYX Bare With Me Brow Setter Review

I’m recently on a mission to try more drugstore brow gels since it’s much harder now to get my beloved L’Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper. Lately I’ve been leaning more towards clear brow gels rather than colored ones, so I recently purchased the NYX Bare With Me Brow Setter with Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil. It was on a big display in Ulta with other newer products in the whole ‘Bare With Me’ line that now contain CBD.

If you don’t know, CBD oil (or cannabidiol) is probably the biggest trend to hit beauty in the past few years now. It’s primarily known for its positive skin & wellness properties like helping to soothe & calm inflamed or irritated skin, reducing wrinkles, relieving pain & anxiety, etc. And don’t worry, it won’t get you high! Apparently it can also help condition and restore your hair through the presence of certain anti-oxidants and amino acids (read this article for in-depth info). But does it really do anything for your brows? I was a bit skeptical when I saw this NYX product to be honest, but after a few weeks of use I’m ready to give you my thoughts on it. Here we go!

MY THOUGHTS ON PACKAGING / BRUSH

This is a lightweight little thing that takes absolutely nothing to throw in your purse or travel bag. Personally I love how dinky it is! Best of all the brush is quite small and doesn’t get overly gloopy with product. I hate, hate, hate when brow gels gather too much product on the brush – you end up losing a lot by having to wipe it off every time. Not the case here, it’s the perfect amount of product every time!

MY THOUGHTS ON APPLICATION

Since there’s never too much product on the brush at one time, application is quite easy. If you see little white bits of product, don’t be alarmed, just keep brushing them through and they’ll go away. And if you like the whole back-combing your brows thing, this is a great product to do that with since you won’t get blobs of product everywhere.

MY THOUGHTS ON HOLD

This is where the NYX Bare With Me Brow Setter starts to falter for me. I wish the hold was stronger, so I definitely disagree with the claim that you can get a ‘soap brow’ kinda look with it. I like to brush my brow hairs straight up to get maximum size & shape. But within a few hours of using this my hairs have usually flopped back down to their default shape. Kinda disappointing. I’d say this product is low-to-moderate in the hold department.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE INCLUSION OF CBD

Ehh, I don’t know. Are my brow hairs stronger and more conditioned? I really don’t know how to test that or even see that with the naked eye. NYX doesn’t tell you how much product to use, or how often, etc to notice any difference. If you check the ingredient list, the oil sits closer to the middle which means there’s likely a moderate level of concentration at best. Truthfully I think this is just a case of ‘bandwagonry’ (yes I just made that word up!). CBD is much buzzed about in the community so this is NYX’s affordable answer to the popular Milk Makeup Kush Brow Gel. End of story.

This little guy is only $7.00 but as usual with all drugstore brands, price depends on the retailer you go to; you may be able to find discounts. But at such an affordable price, I really can’t knock it too much.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you’re looking for an easy-to-use, affordable brow grooming product and you’re not too hung up on hold – this is the product for you! Just ignore the whole CBD thing, I don’t think it matters at all. I’ll gladly use up my existing tube, but I’ll likely not repurchase; I generally want my brow gel to give me more hold.
