Hi friends!
The last full month of summer is upon us – welp! So just as we in the Northern Hemisphere start to go quiet during these final dog days, I’m trying to find any spark of imagination and inspiration that I can to channel into my beauty routine. That is what August’s content theme is all about! I want to find inspiration from unlikely places – from nature, from the everyday, mundane bits of life – and then create something (hopefully) interesting and (hopefully) very cool.
This is a challenge I’ve set out for myself. Call it my ‘beauty inspiration challenge’! I think we all get stuck in our beauty and makeup ruts from time to time, and seek to break out of it with unique colors & textures. If you were a fan of my Capsule Makeup series back in March, you may also like this one.
The parameters that I’ve set for myself are quite broad so as to encourage my creativity and thinking process. The inspiration can come from anything that I see or experience around me including anything natural like flowers, plants, water etc. It also can be anything man-made like food, ceramics, furniture, etc. Lastly, it can also be something abstract like a feeling. I’m going to *try* to stay away from using adverts or anything on social media since I feel that’s a bit too easy. We’ll see how that goes!
So what will this theme actually consist of? Well, I’m aiming to create 4 unique makeup looks, each inspired by something different. Each look will get its own post every week, wherein I’ll show you what inspired me and how it inspired me to create what I did.
I know I’ve talked about him before on here, but if you don’t already follow Terry Barber on Instagram you really must! He’s the Director of Makeup Artistry for the UK and Europe for MAC Cosmetics. His Instagram is the ultimate inspiration for this month’s content theme. Take a peek below!
See what I mean? Totally cool stuff!
I’d love for you guys to tell me what your beauty inspiration is this month! What makes you excited to play and create looks? Are you a neutral-lover for life or do you enjoy experimenting with shapes and colors? Personally, nine times out of ten I’m sitting over there in my comfort zone with either a good ‘ole ‘nude’ look or a neutral look with browns or nudey-pinks. That is just what I love, and what I feel my best in. But I want to break out of that thinking every now and then. Cheers to that!

So I hope you’ll enjoy the looks I create throughout the month! I’m going to post them every Wednesday starting next week, so keep your eyes peeled!

This is a great theme! There are some days I love a good old nude look because it’s more appropriate for everyday wear. When I’m playing with makeup or I’m feeling a little colorful, I love find inspiration through nature like flowers, sunsets and it may sound funny, but fruits lol. If I see a couple colors that I love, I’ll try to blend them together and see what comes out of it.
Yup, that’s exactly what this month is all about! And I may have used food as inspiration for yesterday’s look too 😉😊.
Hahaha gotta love it
I look forward to seeing your different looks and what you inspired them. 😀 I never break out of my comfort zone so this should be motivation for me!
Yay! So glad you’re excited! ❤️
I love this idea! This will be a lot of fun to do. Can’t wait to see what you choose.
Thanks Diane! ❤️
This is amazing! I often find myself in a makeup rut and getting inspiration from everywhere sounds like a really great way to come up with interesting looks and/or color combos. I may have to do this sometime! Sounds like a lot of fun!
I just put the first look up today so you gotta check it out! I thought this would be a fun series to do cause everyone is normally inspired by social media or ads (me included), but why not nature or food or something less obvious?
Yeah definitely!
Fantastic theme … looking forward to your makeup looks ! The picture of those pink peonies !!❤️❤️❤️❤️
😉😘
What a fun idea, Erica!! Cannot wait to see all the looks you create. I’m loving the green IG inspo photos, too. 🙂
Thanks Hunida! I’ve got some interesting looks up my sleeve 😉.
Cool challenge. And thanks for introducing me to Terry Barber. I will look him up on IG. Mark your calendar: Our August edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide will be available Wednesday too. I think that you will like our new issue. Keep up the good work Erica. Much love!
