My beauty anti-wishlist, February 2019

Hi friends!

It’s time for my beauty anti-wishlist, February edition! As has become the standard, I’ve picked five products (or collections in this case) that have either recently launched or will launch soon that I will not be picking up anytime soon. This is based purely on personal preference only; no disrespect intended. I included bits from Tarte, Too Faced, Tom Ford Beauty, Bobbi Brown & ColourPop this month, so let’s get into it!

But first, catch up on my previous anti-wishlists for Sept. / Oct. / Nov. / Dec. / Jan.

TARTE ROSE IS BAE LIP GLOSS & BRUSH SET

Tarte just recently released two lip gloss/brush kits with a wine or celebration theme; this is just one of them, but I could have picked either one to feature here to be honest.

I think this could be a cool gift for someone but it’s not something I’d ever, ever buy for myself. Although the theme seems fun, the products themselves just seem really impratical. I mean, look at the brush – how would you store that?? It would be interesting to see in person the scale of these products; it’s so hard to tell from these ad images. Either way though, I’ll take a pass Tarte.

(Also, doesn’t it seem like a strange time to bring out celebration-themed products like these? It would probably make more sense around holiday time, but that’s just my two cents.)

TOO FACED X ERIKA JAYNE PRETTY MESS COLLECTION

I have no idea who Erika Jayne is, but a little Google search told me that she’s currently one of The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills and is also an on-stage singer & performer. (I used to watch the entire Housewives franchise, but I got bored of that whole sh*tshow.) That aside, none of this OTT, gaudy collection appeals to me.

From what I spied online, all the products debut on Too Faced’s website on Feb. 12th and in Sephora stores on Feb. 17th. The collection contains an eyeshadow palette, two lip kits, a highlighter, a themed Lip Injection, and a body shimmer with a raunchy name (see above).

I don’t know about you, but very few of Too Faced’s recent releases or collections have been inspiring to me. I think the last time I was inspired to spend any of my cash on them was for the Sweet Peach launch (and that was a while ago).

More info on this collection here.

TOM FORD BEAUTY LIP LACQUER LUXE

I first heard about these lippies on Trendmood’s Instagram account, and my immediate response was, nope! As I’ve mentioned on here before, my penchant for matte, dry-down, long-wearing liquid lipsticks has definitely been on the wane for a while now. But if I am going to buy another liquid lip, I’m certainly not going to spend $55.00 for one. Sorry Tom Ford, but no.

Now I realize that there are two different finishes, as shown in the image above, but it doesn’t really matter; I’m still not interested! I do have two Tom Ford lipsticks that I love in my collection, but to be honest they were both gifts for Christmas or my birthday. I’ve never bought a Tom Ford makeup product with my own cash, and the Lip Lacquer Luxe certainly won’t be it!

More info on this product here.

BOBBI BROWN EXTRA LIP TINTs

Let me preface this by saying I’m a big, big fan of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics in general. I have several of their products in my collection that I totally cherish, like the Tinted Moisturizing Balm and the Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks. But $34.00 for a lightly tinted lip balm? I’ll pass, thanks! They just recently added three or four new colors to the line-up so they’ve been re-promoting these a lot on their Instagram. The most I’m willing to pay for a tinted lip balm is the $18.00 or so it costs for one of my beloved Clinique Chubby Sticks. Any more than that, just forget it.

COLOURPOP X KATHLEEN LIGHTS The zodiac LOOSE PIGMENTS COLLECTION

I seriously have lost track of how many collabs Kathleen Lights has done with ColourPop at this point. Anyways, this is the most recent one (just launched on Jan. 31st) and it’s an extension of her larger Zodiac collection from 2018. I don’t use loose pigments…like ever, so I would get zero use from something like this. I bought one years ago from MAC’s mini line called Naked. It was a beautiful color that I used a few times, but ultimately I found the format just too fussy for me. And from looking at ColourPop’s website, I believe you have to order all 12 loose pigments as a set. Even more reason this is a pass for me.

My beauty anti-wishlist, January 2019

Hi friends!

It’s a new month so that can only mean it’s time for another beauty anti-wishlist! There are tons of new launches coming out this month (what else is new?), but unfortunately not all of them are exciting me. So I present to you a fresh list of 5 beauty items that I am passing on based on personal preferences and other reasons. As always, no disrespect is intended with this post; these are just my personal feelings.

Catch up on my previous anti-wishlists, if you’d like!

MORPHE BRUSHES FLUIDITY FOUNDATION

Morphe Brushes Fluidity Foundation

This is Morphe’s next big launch coming on January 17th and I believe their first foray into complexion products. And it’s going to have…wait for it…60 foundation shades to choose from. Boom. They are also releasing concealers & setting powders on the same day, so this is a huge release for them and a big PR moment, no doubt. But I’m just over here yawning 😆. I’m pretty happy with my current collection of base products, and I’m really not into matte, full-coverage foundations because of my dry skin. I don’t mind full-cover concealers, but certainly not foundations. I’m sure the launch will be amazing for them, but no thanks Morphe.

PHYSICIAN’S FORMULA BUTTER COLLECTION X CASEY HOLMES PALETTE

Physician’s Formula Butter Collection x Casey Holmes Palette

This is the first influencer collab for Physician’s Formula, but unfortunately I won’t be picking this up anytime soon. The packaging looks a bit bulky (a pet peeve of mine) and when I look at it, I just don’t get excited at all. It’s a palette featuring all of Physician’s Formula Butter products that have been curated by YouTuber Casey Holmes. It includes a bronzer, blush, highlighter, 4 eyeshadows, a lip cream & a perfume. I already have the much-beloved Butter Bronzer, which I do like (read my full review here) but I’m not completely gaga over it like some other people are. I just don’t need any of what this palette offers right now.

More info on this product here.

BH COSMETICS MINI ZODIAC CAPRICORN PALETTE

BH Cosmetics Mini Zodiac Capricorn Palette

I know the shadows from BH Cosmetics are awesome quality, and oh so affordable, but this palette just looks really basic, ya know? And I’m a Capricorn too, I should love this palette! I can only speak for myself of course, and I already have so many brown shadows (both warm & cool) in my collection. I love earthy tones a lot, but this just isn’t doing it for me, sorry BH! The highlighter looks gorgeous but I would never buy this just for one item.

MILANI COSMETICS CONCEAL + PERFECT Longwear CONCEALER

Milani Conceal + Perfect Concealer

Milani’s new concealer offering goes on sale on January 8th, and honestly if I hadn’t just bought two drugstore concealers last fall (Revlon PhotoReady Candid & Joah Beauty Truly Yours Full Cover), I might get this! I love me a drugstore concealer, but I’m just too stocked up right now. I’ve been curious to try Milani’s complexion products in the past but the shades always seemed to be too dark for me. But the new Conceal + Perfect has 18 shades, so I may have an easier time finding the right shade. According to Trendmood, this has medium-to-full coverage which I do like the sound of, but like I said before, I just have too many concealers to justify another purchase right now.

Read my review on the Revlon PhotoReady Candid Concealer.

BENEFIT ROLLER LINER LIQUID eyeLINER

Benefit Roller Liner The Matte Liquid Liner

I believe this just became available a few days ago. I’ve been a long-time fan of Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara, but I’m just not a liquid liner kinda girl. I’m quite horrible at eyeliner to be fair, so I either use a soft pencil or a dark shadow and just smudge it along my lash line to get rid of any imperfections. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a liquid liner in my life now that I think about it, so I’m certainly not about to start now. However if you do love your liquid liner, this does sound like a good one. Supposely the formula is waterproof and therefore quite long-wearing. My mom would probably love this actually.

My beauty anti-wishlist, December 2018

Hi friends!

Even though we’re now in the season of giving and receiving, it’s still anti-wishlist time, the December edition! As is the standard now, I’ve rounded up 5 beauty items from newish (I’m really stretching that this time!) launches that I won’t be picking up anytime soon for various reasons. This time I have a really well-rounded list including makeup, skincare, & hair items, so let’s get into it!

I always include this disclaimer, but this is not at all meant to be a bash on these brands or these particular products. This is just stuff that I imagine I wouldn’t get much use from based on my personal preferences, so I thought I’d tell you why.

Catch up with my previous anti-wishlists here: September, October, November.

JAMES CHARLES X MORPHE BRUSHES PALETTE

James Charles x Morphe Brushes Palette

James Charles’ palette launched a few weeks ago in November, and I think it’s already gone in and out of stock a few times. Currently it’s out of stock at Morphe & Ulta, but that doesn’t really matter to me since I won’t be putting my order in. This is probably a really lovely palette, and I appreciate the wide spectrum of colors here. And at $39.00 for 39 colors, it seems very affordable. But the size is just too big for me. I’m not sure where I would store it, and it wouldn’t be able to fit on the surface in my house where I normally apply my makeup. So for me this is a practicality issue, so I’ll take a pass.

DYSON AIRWRAP

Dyson Airwrap

The Dyson Airwrap launched back in October so I’m a little late to the party on this, but to be honest as soon as I saw this I knew it wasn’t for me. If you’re not already familiar, it’s a hair dryer/styling hybrid tool that can come with up to 6 different attachments depending on the model you order: paddle brushes, conical wands, hair dryers, etc. It ranges in price from $500 – $550 depending on the number of attachments, I believe. It boasts a special aerodynamic technology that attracts hair and wraps it around the barrel for minimum effort on your part. (There are tons of videos on the internet demo’ing this product, just look it up.) There are a few reasons why I’m not interested in this tool. Firstly, it’s too big of an investment for me. Secondly, my hair styling routine is very low-maintenance, plus I don’t use a hair dryer; I only use a flat-iron in the morning after my hair air-dries the night before. And lastly, my mom had a bad experience with the original Dyson hair dryer. It literally started to fry her hair! Now I’m scared of Dyson hair products!

CHANTECAILLE 20TH ANNIVERSARY MOONLIT PERLE GLOW POWDER

Chantecaille Moonlit Perle Glow Powder

Now, I’m not saying I’m immune to pricey AF purchases from Chantecaille. (Hint: I have a fun review coming at the end of the month on a Chantecaille product, so keep a look out!) But $125.00 for a glowy setting powder?? No thanks. Hourglass has me covered in that department. To be fair, this is a collector’s item to commemorate the brand’s 20th anniversary this year. I’m sure not many were made, and as it is their website says this is currently out of stock. The pearl packaging and the whole presentation is absolutely beautiful, without a doubt. But I do have (some) limits 😉.

DR. JART+ MASK HEROES

Dr. Jart+ Mask Heroes

This is a limited edition set of 6 of Dr. Jart’s bestselling sheet masks including:

– Hydration Lover Rubber Mask
– Firm Lover Rubber Mask
– Dermask Micro Jet Clearing Solution™ Mask
– Dermask Micro Jet Brightening Solution™ Mask
– Prescriptment Water Replenishment Cotton Sheet Mask
– Pore Minimalist Black Charcoal Sheet Mask

At the present moment, I just don’t reach for sheet masks. I tried a hydrating mask from Garnier a few months ago, but I can’t get past the overly drippy, wet feeling against my skin. I know this will horrify a lot of skincare enthusiasts out there, but don’t judge me too harshly! We all have our things, don’t we? I want to get more into them since I have a few in my stash from The Creme Shop, but I certainly wouldn’t go as far as to buy a set of 6 like this one. However, if you are a Dr. Jart+ fan or a mask enthusiast, this does seem like a really good value for money: 6 masks for only $36.00 when normally it would cost $57.00.

PAT MCGRATH LABS BLITZTRANCE LIPSTICKS

Pat McGrath Labs Blitztrance Lipsticks

I’ve only tried one product from Pat McGrath Labs so far, the Bronze Ambition Eyeshadow Palette which was the first ever in-depth review I did for this blog (you can read it here). I love that palette; the colors, textures, packaging, everything is beautiful! Pat’s brand in general has become synonymous in the beauty community with lush and beautiful (and pricey) products, so I have no doubt these Blitztrance Lipsticks are top-notch in the quality department. However, they’re just not my cup of tea. They are described on the brand’s Instagram as “iridescent lipstick(s) with multidimensional, highshine effects.” But at $38.00 a pop, I just can’t justify purchasing what is essentially a glitter lipstick. I believe the colors shown in the Instagram image above are limited edition by the way (from left to right: Flesh Fatale, Rebel Red, Blitz Gold.) I’m far more interested in trying their Mattetrance Lipstick formula than these.

My beauty anti-wishlist, November 2018

Hi friends!

It’s time for November’s anti-wishlist! I’ve rounded up my list of 5 beauty items from newly-released launches that I won’t be picking up anytime soon. Like last month a lot of these are limited edition holiday items. Just a disclaimer, if you’re excited or want any of these items, please don’t take this as a condemnation of said item. I obviously have never used any of them; this is based purely on personal preference. We all love different things and that’s great!

You can get caught up with my previous anti-wishlists here: September, October.

So let’s get started!

HUDA BEAUTY CONTOUR & STROBE SET IN HEARTBREAKER & SHAMELESS

hudabeautyholidaylipset

I believe Huda Beauty has been doing these lip sets for a while now and they bring out different colors from time to time. This one is a limited edition color scheme for the 2018 holiday season I believe. The kit contains one matte liquid lipstick, one lip pencil & one shimmery lip strobe (or lip topper). Actually the value is great; it’s $25.00 for 3 products. So why don’t I like or want it? To be honest, both the liquid lip & lip pencil formulas from Huda Beauty aren’t necessarily my favorite; they’re not bad, they’re just not my go-to. (Check out my full blog post on Huda Beauty here.) Also, I very rarely wear red lipstick these days. I love the idea of red lips and how classic they are, especially for Christmas time, but it’s just too high maintenance for me.

JOUER MAKING MAGIC ULTRA FOIL EYESHADOW PALETTE

jouerultrafoileyeshadowpalette
Image source: Trendmood, via Jouer IG

I believe I’ve only tried one product from Jouer thus far. I’d love to try more especially now that they’re in Sephora, but this limited edition palette isn’t it sadly. I think this literally just launched on sephora.com two days ago, and it’s a little set that includes this 12-pan eyeshadow palette plus a sparkly eye topper for $52.00. An entire palette of foiled, highly shimmery shadows? Just not my cup of tea. I don’t mind one or two foiled shadows as part of a larger palette, but I’d like some mattes in there to help ground the look. Don’t get me wrong, I like shimmer & glitter but definitely not enough to utilize an entire palette-full. (If you’re not familiar with foil shadows, they are used wet to achieve a metallic or hyper-shimmery effect on the eye.)

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN TAPE A L’OEIL NUDE EYE COLOUR COLLECTION

louboutintapealoeil

I don’t know anyone that has personally tried any of the Christian Louboutin makeup yet. I just know what I’ve heard on YouTube or read online and it’s really mixed from what I can tell. This entire line seems geared towards luxury makeup collectors and uber-fans of the brand. I haven’t seen anything yet that I think would be worth the enormous price points. Case in point, this collection of 6 nude eyeshadows called Tape a l’Oeil which launched in early October. They’re $50.00 each and they supposedly apply liquid but set to a powdery finish. I got plenty of good quality shadows in almost every finish: liquid, cream, powder. Why would I need this? And for $50.00 per bottle? Don’t think so. Plus the packaging kinda freaks me out.

COLOURPOP NO FILTER FOUNDATION STIX

colourpopnofilterstixfoundation

ColourPop expanded their No Filter line just a few weeks ago with this stick foundation launch. It comes in 30 shades for a very affordable price ($10.00 a stick). I’m just not a stick foundation kinda gal unfortunately. I love stick makeup when it comes to blush, eyeshadow, highlighter, etc, but not base products. Most formulas tend to be too dry for my skin. ColourPop claims this gives a lightweight, natural finish that won’t dry your skin out, but I guess I’m still a bit weary. I’d totally be open to trying a stick foundation that was truly hydrating and lumizing, so my fellow dry-skin people out there, if you know of a great formula please let me know! Or if you have tried the No Filter Foundation Stix and it was great on your dry skin, please tell me too!

HOURGLASS AMBIENT LIGHTING EDIT VOL. 4

hourglassambientlightingedit4

This one is hard because I really love the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders. I wrote about them in my favorite luxury products post a while back. The formula and finish are absolutely beautiful on the skin. But honestly I’m using them less and less in my routine these days, purely because I find myself gravitating away from powders in the cooler months. I go in and out of love with powders all of the time because of my dry skin, so I just can’t see myself dropping $80.00 for this limited edition palette right now. It looks absolutely beautiful though and I’m sure the quality is top-notch. If you are interested for yourself or as a gift for someone, there are 3 face powders, 1 bronzer that’s exclusive to this palette, & 2 blushes (one shade is exclusive to this palette).

My beauty anti-wishlist, October 2018

It’s time for another beauty anti-wishlist today! The first post in September went down so well that I thought I’d do another edition now that we’re in a new calendar month. A lot more launches have come out since my last post, especially a lot of the holiday gift sets. Not everything on this list is part of a gift set, but I believe 3 out of 5 are.

If you haven’t read my first post, my anti-wishlist contains beauty items from recent or upcoming launches that I will not be picking up anytime soon based purely on personal preference. To be clear, I’m not labeling these products as “bad” or “horrible” (I’ve never tried any of them of course); they are just products that I’m not necessarily excited for nor could I see myself getting much use out of. I think it’s good every now and then to talk about the things we don’t want, not to be negative but to make the point that you don’t have to run out and get every new launch out there.

So let’s get into it!

TOO FACED SUGAR COOKIE EYESHADOW PALETTE (LIMITED EDITION)

toofacedsugarcookiepalette

This is part of Too Faced’s larger holiday gift collection for 2018, and while I think the colors in this palette look beautiful, wearable and are generally up my alley, I already have all these tones in my collection already. Supposedly these shades are all exclusive to this particular palette, and they smell like fresh-baked cookies! I’m sure I’d love the smell and just stand there and sniff the palette for 10 minutes before applying my makeup, but that’s still not gonna make me shell out $26.00 for this. If you are interested for yourself or for a gift, right now this is still in stock on Ulta.com but out of stock on Toofaced.com, so I’d get on it quick. For me, I’ll pass this time.

WET N’ WILD MEGA GLO BODY LUMINIZER

wetnwildbodyluminizer
Image source: Wet n’ Wild Instagram

I believe this product is now available on both wetnwildbeauty.com and walmart.com, and will launch in Walmart stores by mid October. I read an article on Allure.com that said this is the more affordable version of the Fenty Beauty Body Lava, a luminizing product for the body that you can wear on its own or mixed in with a lotion or moisturizer. Um, I never luminize my body nor do I expose a lot of skin even in the summer months, so I would probably get no use out of this product. I do sometimes apply an all-over luminizer like MAC Strobe Cream or my newer fave, The Hollywood Flawless Filter from Charlotte Tilbury, on my face but that’s about it. Pass.

FENTY BEAUTY STUNNA LIP PAINT IN UNINVITED

fentystunnalippaint

Speaking of Fenty Beauty, they’ve just brought out new colors of the Stunna Lip Paint, their long-wear matte liquid lipstick, and the majority look beautiful. I have my eye on Uncuffed, the mauve color, which just speaks to me. But I’ll tell you what I’m turning my cheek to, the black color in the shade Uninvited. I’m just not brave or cool enough to wear black on my lips (unless it’s for Halloween maybe?); I don’t even wear black eyeshadow that much unless I’m using it to line my eyes. I don’t do any lip art or anything like that, and mixing lipstick shades just seems too fussy to me. This will probably look striking on others, but I can’t imagine it on my pale-as-printer-paper complexion. Pass.

PUR COSMETICS GRINCH HOLIDAY SET 2018 (LIMITED EDITION)

  • All images are from purcosmetics.com

grinchcollection1

grinchcollection2

grinchcollection3

grinchcollection4

grinchcollection5

Just no, PUR. I’m sorry but none of this 5-piece holiday collection speaks to me (and I love the Grinch!). I assume this collection is coming out in celebration of the new Grinch movie later this year (which I so want to see), but I probably wouldn’t use any of it. The palette looks too big and bulky, and I never use face masks or liquid eyeliners. Oh, and I’m not in the market right now for new face brushes either. Pass.

KAT VON D FETISH BLUSH + HIGHLIGHTER PALETTE (LIMITED EDITION)

katvondfetishpalette
Image source: Kat von D Beauty Instagram

While I am through and through a blush wearer and lover, I hardly use powder textures as much as I once did. This is a cool-looking palette for sure which contains 3 of Kat’s new Everlasting Blushes (a debut for the formula in fact) and 3 Metal Crush Extreme Highlighters (2 of which are exclusive to this palette). I’ve only ever bought one blush palette before. It was a holiday palette from Benefit a few years back, which is still in my collection although I don’t give it much love anymore. It’s just so pretty I can’t stand to part with it, you get me? I just have a few MAC powder blushes now (in singles) along with a cavalry of my much-preferred cream & liquid products. So I’m just not getting another blush palette. Pass.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these products. Will you be picking anything up from this list? What is on your anti-wishlist this month? I’d love to know!
