New brand alert! Mavie Cosmetics has launched!

Hi friends!

If you read my previous post on inspiring Instagram images, you may remember that I just briefly discussed Mavie Cosmetics. Well, I’m back now with a full post on them since the line just launched yesterday! I love it when a new brand is born, don’t you? If you’re interested I encourage you to visit their website which is now up and running.

Below you’ll find a description of what Mavie is all about. As mentioned in my previous post, this brand is marketing itself as a producer of confidenceboosting and empowering cosmetics, as evidenced by their choice of product names.

What is Mavie.?
Mavie. is all about empowering each other — you and me — by exploring our own uniqueness, qualities, and potentials, together through makeup. Each of our collections is created to shed positive lights on the daily life. We understand our inner beauty is as important as how we look. And we want to help achieve the healthy connection and balance between the inner self and appearance.

Because let’s face it, don’t we all feel darn powerful and confident when we look good? For many of us, putting on makeup isn’t just about vanity, it’s about putting on your warpaint and getting ready to take charge.

Ever feel you can take on the world when you’re wearing that power lipstick?
That is Mavie.

At the time of launch, Mavie has eye, cheek & lip cosmetic products only. In this post, I will briefly take you through each category and its respective products. Just a disclaimer, I have not tried any of these products yet so I cannot attest or comment on overall quality, nor can I provide swatches. (You can check Mavie’s Instagram stories for swatches.) This post is purely meant as an introduction to the brand.

Before we get into the categories, here are some fast facts about the brand.

  • Only ships within the U.S. at the time of launch. They plan on expanding overseas in the future.
  • All products are crueltyfree, formulated without parabens or gluten.
  • All eyeshadow palettes are also veganfriendly.
  • Prices range from $12.00 – $23.00.
  • All sales are final (no returns or exchanges), but they will replace items broken in transit.

Now let’s get into the products!

Hustle & Bustle #1 eyeshadow quad

Hustle & Bustle # 2 eyeshadow palette

  • Six 9-pan “Take Me To…” eyeshadow palettes priced @ $23.00 each
  1. Take Me To Santorini
  2. Take Me to Paris
  3. Take Me to Los Angeles
  4. Take Me to Stockholm
  5. Take Me To Tokyo
  6. Take Me to Hong Kong
  • Two “Hustle & Bustle” eyeshadow quads priced @ $17.00 each
  1. Hustle & Bustle #1
  2. Hustle & Bustle #2

Out of all these color schemes, my eye keeps coming back to the Take Me To Paris & the Take Me To Stockholm Palettes. I love the pinks, the subtle neutrals & that mint green shade in the Paris Palette. And the Stockholm Palette just looks so chic to me! You could probably create some really lovely, soft daytime looks with both color stories, which is my favorite kind of look to achieve!

CHEEKS – Shop here

maviemottoblushes
  • Four “The Motto Blushes” (powder blush singles) priced @ $14.00 each
  1. Let Your Light Shine – coral, with matte finish
  2. Do It For You – nude pink, with matte finish
  3. Take the Risk or Lose the Chance – medium pink, with satin finish
  4. I Can And I Will – nude to coral, with satin finish

Personally I’m not too excited by these blushes. On screen the colors all look like a variation of the same thing. And by the time they’re applied and sheered out on the cheek, they’ll probably give the same effect. It would be nice to see a deeper berry tone or mauve in the line to break up all the pink & peach. Hopefully that will be forthcoming in the future.

LIPS – Shop here

maviepowercharmslipsticks

  • Eight “Power Charms” Lipsticks priced between $12.00$13.00
  1. Confidence – glossy finish – $13.00
  2. Resilience – satin finish  – $12.00
  3. Curiosity – matte finish – $13.00
  4. Strength – satin finish – $12.00
  5. Leadership – satin finish – $12.00
  6. Wisdom – satin finish – $12.00
  7. Positivity – glossy finish – $13.00
  8. Inspiration – glossy finish – $13.00

These look nice but not anything particularly special. I’ll probably wait to hear some reviews before I try anything. I do love a good satin texture though. I don’t understand why there’s a $1.00 price difference in half of the lipstick shades.

What do you think of this new launch? Do any of the products tickle your fancy? I’d love to know!

Birchbox is coming to Walgreens!

Drugstore beauty is taking another leap into the future! After hearing that CVS Pharmacy partnered with Glamsquad & eSalon to create the “Beauty IRL” store-within-a-store (which I wrote about here), I recently read that its drugstore competitor Walgreens is getting in the game as well. They are partnering with Birchbox, the well-known beauty subscription service, to bring Birchbox boutiques to 11 select Walgreens locations in 6 U.S. cities starting this December! See the image below from Walgreens’ Instagram with city listings/times.

birchboxlaunches

This is very similar to CVS’s “Beauty IRL” concept in that these Birchbox-branded boutiques will “live” within a larger Walgreens store. But while Birchbox (and most other beauty subscription services) are synonymous with mini or sample sizes, these boutiques will be stocked with fullsize makeup, skincare & haircare products from Birchbox’s roster of brands. To be more specific, this partnership will introduce 40 new brands into Walgreens including Sand & Sky, Wander Beauty, Embryolisse, Winky Lux & ARROW, to name a few. How exciting!

Interestingly, the products will be merchandized by need and not by brand inside these Birchbox boutiques, which I think is really cool and unlike a lot of other shopping experiences we know. So if you’re not the biggest beauty shopper nor very brand-loyal, this may be something that excites you.

Supposedly each boutique will have “Birchbox-trained” beauty consultants to assist you, plus a “BYOB” (Build Your Own Birchbox) section where you can curate your own Birchbox from a selection of beauty mini’s. I think this is such a cool idea as I’ve been a Birchbox customer for a number of years now (and I love a mini anything). And if you don’t live in or near any of the cities listed above, the Birchbox offerings will also be available online at walgreens.com.

I think this will be another great option for beauty shoppers (big or small). It’s awesome to see drugstore retailers making big investments that will ultimately give their customers a different, more exciting experience. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

Are you excited for Birchbox to come to Walgreens? I’d love to know!

The Liebster Award

I was nominated for my first ever blogger award, the Liebster Award, by the lovely Michelle from Blessings by Me. Please go check out her blog! She does mainly lifestyle stuff over there including recipes, interior decorating, crafting & personal stories from her life.

The rules here are super simple. I have to answer the 11 questions given to me by Michelle, ask 11 new questions of my own, and then nominate 11 other bloggers. So let’s do it!

  • 1. What’s your biggest fear?

Losing my mind or personhood for any possible reason (ex. dementia, Alzheimer’s, trauma, etc).

  • 2. What absolutely grosses you out?

Sandwiches with cold cuts! I know it’s weird but I’ve hated them since birth. Instead of a traditional packed lunch I used to make myself saltine cracker sandwiches with peanut butter when I was a kid. Truth is I’d rather skip a meal than eat a deli sandwich.

  • 3. What one person you would love to meet someday.

David Attenborough. (If you don’t know who he is, you should.) I feel like I could learn so much from him.

  • 4. What is your dream vacation?

Exploring the island of Santorini!

  • 5. Do you like the way you laugh?

My family has always made fun of the way I laugh, but many people have told me they love it. So I love it too!

  • 6. What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t worry. Everything will work itself out.

  • 7. What is your favorite type of candy?

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, hands down.

  • 8. What was the best thing that happened to you yesterday?

A delicious dinner! I love a good meal.

  • 9. When were you late for something that you wished you were early for?

I don’t like to toot my own horn but I’m rarely late for things; I’m chronically early most of the time. However I was recently late to catch the train back from NYC so I had to wait around the station for ages for the next train. Boring.

  • 10. What is the one thing you love most about your bathroom?

Good water pressure!

  • 11. What is something you wish you could do but do not know how?

Oh gosh, so many. Wish I could make my own clothes, or cut my hair. I’d save so much money!

And here are my 11 questions:

1. What is your dream job?

2. Dog, cat, or none or the above?

3. What is your favorite book and why?

4. What is your “spirit animal”?

5. What is your favorite city in the world and why?

6. What is the one food item you could eat everyday and be perfectly happy?

7. If an alien came down to Earth and asked you to explain what love is, what would you say?

8. If you could time-travel, where & what time period would you travel to?

9. Choose one person who has passed that you could have a conversation with now.

10. What is your favorite type of blog to read?

11. What do you like to do in your down time?

And here are my nominations! Please go check out everyone on this list; they are so awesome.

I hit 100 followers on my blog! GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Big news today! Over the weekend I hit 100 followers on my little beauty blog here! While this number may be small in comparison to many other bloggers out there, it’s a big deal to me. I started this blog in May of this year right before graduating from business school because I love the world of beauty and everything in it. I wanted to find and/or pull together a community of like-minded people where we could discuss our passion for products and trends and get to know one another. I think we’ve made a great group. Everyone is so supportive and kind, which can be challenging to find on the internet these days.

I wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you for following, reading and engaging in my little corner of the internet. It really means a lot. So in gratitude, I wanted to give something back. One lucky winner will win a $100 Sephora eGift Card to spend on whatever your heart desires! This is open internationally. (Outside the U.S. and Canada, the eGift Card is redeemable online; in the U.S. and Canada, it’s redeemable online and in stores.)

Here are the rules. In order to win, you must:

1. Follow my blog (of course).

2. Leave a comment below this post telling me one fun fact about yourself. (One comment per blogger/entry; if you spam the comment section you will be disqualified.) I’ll start it off: in 2011, I walked in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade under The Diary of a Wimpy Kid balloon!

3. Like this post and my previous three blog posts. (You will need a WordPress account to do this.)

4. Be 18 years or older

5. Have a valid email address in order to claim your eGift Card if you win.

*All of the above criteria must be met in order to be eligible to win.

The giveaway will be open for 3 days, ending on Friday, Sept. 14th at 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. The winner will be randomly chosen, and I will make a short announcement on here regarding who won. The winner will have 24 hours from announcement time to claim their prize. If they don’t claim it, another winner will be chosen/announced, etc.

I hope everything is clear. Good luck to you all and thank you very much once again for the support ❤️.

Disclaimer: this giveaway is in no way affiliated or sponsored by Sephora, WordPress, or any other entity.
